NOTICE TO THE READERS OF THE SUPPLEMENT TO MY
DISSERTATION ON THE SEALS.

In the last paragraph of p. 15, and the first of p. 16, of that Work, two errors of Chronological transposition have taken place. The two periods of 1040 and 315 years, which in the former paragraph are connected with the year 376, the date of the first Trumpet, ought to have been connected, in p. 16, with the year 476, the end of the fourth Trumpet; and the cycle of 353 X4 = 1412 years, which in p. 16 is connected with the year 476, ought to have been placed in p. 15, in connexion with the year 376. The result of this double transposition is, in the former paragraph, p. 15, an error of 100 years minus, and in p. 16, of 100 years plus. These mistakes probably occurred in transcribing the periods from my Synopsis. In p. 14 of the same Work, and 5th line, the 5th Seal is misprinted for the 5th Trumpet; and at the top of p. 67, the date of the Deluge, B. c. 3217, has been inserted by mistake, instead of the Cycle of 4771 years from the Deluge, which will be found in p. 65.

It is a general rule with me to take the earliest opportunity of acknowledging any mistakes which are discovered in my Works. The reader will excuse my acknowledging the above in this place.

TO THE

INTRODUCTORY DISSERTATION.

THERE are two passages in this Dissertation which require explanation. In page 24th it is said that, according to the Seventy, the interval from the Exodus to the 1st of David is 569 years. It ought to have been said, according to the original text of the Seventy, wherein, in the time of Origen, the number in 1 Kings vi. 1. did not exist; and also according to the reading of the Aldine copy in 1 Sam. iv. 18., which gives forty years, whereas the Vatican copy reads only twenty, for the administration of Eli. It should also be mentioned, that the Hebrew and Greek texts equally require the insertion of the term of 27 years for Joshua and the Anarchy, and 12 for Samuel, after the victory of Mizpeh, the reasons for which will be found in my Chronology of Israel, Chap. V.

I wish the foregoing explanation to be kept in view in reading the passage in p. 34.

January 24th, 1837.
