In this Second Part of the Bible Stories, the Author has so far departed from the plan pursued in the First, as to add reflections only occasionally, and not at the end of each section. The moral which is to be learnt from each particular history in the New Testament, is, in most cases, so interwoven with the narrative, that to subjoin reflections would only be to repeat that which has already been said in a much better form. Explanations appear to be needed oftener than reflections; and the Author trusts that those which are interspersed in the course of the work will be found to elucidate the principal difficulties which may occur to children.

The Stories are narrated almost entirely in the words of Scripture, and, with little variation, in those of our Common Version. They embrace all the leading events in the life of our Saviour,

The Sermon on the Mount is not inserted-partly, because, being in a continuous form, it can easily be read by children in the Bible itself, and partly from an unwillingness to increase the size, and consequently the price of the book. The extracts from the Gospels are followed up by others from the Acts of the Apostles, so that it is hoped that a child will acquire, by reading this little work, a clear and adequate knowledge of what was done and suffered by our Lord himself, and by his immediate followers, for the purpose of establishing his religion in the world, and procuring for mankind all the manifold benefits resulting from his sacred mission.
