H. Northmore arbeitet an einer neuen Ausgabe des Tryphiodorus. Er fügt eine neue Uebersetzung und eis nen neuen Commentar hinzu.

Edw. Kennion kündigt auf Subscription an: Anfangsgründe der allgemeinen Darstellung in Landschaf= ten, oder Einleitung zum Studium der wahren Verception der Naturscenen von den ersten simpeln Eindrücken in den Gestalten der Gegenstände bis zu den Wirkungen der Combination, der Behandlung des Lichts und den höhern Erfordernissen des Gemähldes. Hr. Savage giebt in Octav heraus, ein systematis sches Verzeichniß derjenigen Theile des thierischen und Mineralreichs, welche in Grosbritannien gefunden werden, nach Linne's Anordnung, mit Hinweisungen auf die Figuren der verschiedenen Thiere und mit den Sy nomymen der verschiedenen Schriftsteller.

Die Innungen der schottischen Stadt Dumfries haben alljährlich ein Scheibenschiessen, und die Beloh nung, welche von einem der schottischen Könige dem bes ften Schüßen ausgesetzt wurde, ist eine silberne Flinte. Herr John Mayne, dessen kleines Gedicht Glasgow ihn unter die besten lebenden brittischen Dichtern seßt, hat diesen Umstand zum Vorwurfe eines neuen Gedichts gewählt.

Der bekannte Schriftsteller Belsham läßt in kurzem eine neue Uebersetzung der Paullinischen Briefe nebst Ers klärung und Anmerkungen erscheinen; ingleichem eine Uebersicht der Gründe für die Menschheit Jesu Christi.

Vor einiger Zeit wurde in diesen Blåttern erwähnt,

daß Hr. Ruf her in Banbury cine neue Art von Lettern erfunden hatte, wofür er ein Patent bekommen. Als erste Probe seiner Erfindung wird er nå stens Johnfon's Rasselas herausgeben.

Hr. Wilkins in Cambridge, der so eben aus Gries chenland zurückgekehrt ist, hat den Pro pectus cines. großen Werks in Folio,,die Alterthümer von roßgries. chenland" ausgegeben: es umfaßt die Alterthümer der griechischen Baukunst, welche sich jetzt noch in Eyracus, Agrigentum, Eelinus und Segesta finden, die drey Tempel der alten Stadt Posidonia oder Påstum, nebst den Ueberresten zweyer Tempel in Malta.

Der Prediger. Moseley beschäftiget si mit einer Charte, welche die Erdbeschreibung and Geschichte des alten Testaments in einer Uebersicht enthalten soll. Man wird darauf alle merkwürdige Plätze finden, deren Mo-, ses und die Propheten gedenken, ingleichem die Eintheilung des Landes Jirael in Stämme, die Entfernungen der vornehmsten Städte, und die Reisen der Kinder Is rael aus Egypten nach Canaan, mit einer historischen Nachricht von jedem Orte.

Arrowsmith edirt eine schöne Charte von der Tros janischen Ebene und der Gegend des Ida, nebst den Quellen des Simois und Scamander, nach einer Mess sung von Kauffer.

Der mathematische Instrumentenmacher Atkins hat die Hydrometer zur Probe geistiger Flüssigkeiten verbessert.

Edward Thomason in Birmingham hat einen neuen Caminborstwisch (hearth brush) erfunden.

Neue Kupfer.

The fovourite lamb, das Lieblingslamm, ges mahlt von Ibbertson, gestochen von Geremia: colorirt, Preis 15 Schill. bey Orme. Ein sehr artiges Blatt. Ein Mädchen führt das geliebte Lamm an einem seidnen Bande, statt des Zaums. Ihr kleiner ruder, welchen die ältere Schwester fest hält, reiter auf dem Lamm.

Das Gegenstück ist Going to, the hay field, Kina der die Heumachen gehen: von denselben sümfilern und von gleichem Preise, Colorirt, Ein Knabe trägt ein

Fäßchen, neben ihm geht ein kleines Mädchen mit einem Kinde auf dem Arme. Diese Gruppe begleitet ein Hund. In der Ferne sieht man das Heufeld. Die Ausführung ist gut, aber die Erfindung sehr mittelmäßig.

The rustic hovel, von Morland gemahlt, und von C. Bell gestochen. Zwey Bauern, von denen der eine das leibhaftige Bild der blühenden englischen Landleute ist, liegen in einer Hütte und schwatzen, während ihre Esel theils cuf dem reinen Stroh liegen, theils stes hen. Preis 15 bey Orme. Ausser den Schönheiten, für welche man Ursachen angeben kann, haben Morlands Blätter noch viele andre, die man blos empfindet. Dies ist auch bey dem vorliegenden der Fall.

Mount Tabor. Gemahlt von Lime nach einer Zeiche nung von Spilsbury, gestochen von Stadler. Dies ist ein herrliches Blatt aus Orme's Kupferwerfe the holyland. Die besondre Bekleidung der Berge, die Zelte, die Menschen, die Cameele ze. 2c. sämmtlich an Ort, und Stelle gezeichnet, sind sehr characteristisch.

Bey Orme findet man auch wieder eine Menge kleiner transparenter Bilder z. B. Fireballoon, Guy Faux, Stopping a fox hole, hatching sparrows, von denen jedes Blatt, welches vier Bilder enthält, acht Schillinge kostet.

Mit Anfang des Januars erscheint die erste Nums mer eines Weris, das London und dessen Umkreis zum Gegenstande hat. Es heißt Select Views of London and its environs. Die Kupferstecher Storer und Greig arbeiten nach Originalgemählden der besten englischen Künstler, und jedes Blatt erhält eine ausführliche ge-. druckte Erla terung. Jede Nummer kostet fünf Schillinge, und es erscheint alle Monate am ersten Tage eine Nummer.
