In constant order works the LORD;

His several wonders all, by rule, and in their time,
Appear, when called by His eternal power.
Can things create urge onward their Creator?
When He commands, can they delay Him?
In constant order works the LORD.

The morn awakes, the noonday glows, the light declines; then follows restful evening.

The winter yields, the spring returns, the autumn comes, the fruitage swells and ripens.

The maiden blooms, a spring is hers, her bloom decays; transformed is life thereafter.

Can things create urge onward their Creator?

At daybreak assemble the menacing clouds
To master the sun as he rises;

The buds shrivel up with the chill of the rime;

The maiden of roughness and strength is afraid: yet stands His appointment.

The day has its course, the rime dissolves, and love prevails.

When He commandeth, who can stay Him?

In constant order works the LORD.

The gloominess of night will hang on the soul and hide the light of GOD:

Distress will weigh on tender spirits and weaken pious trust in God;

So terror will seize on a people, and break their growing manhood down.

The pure and good, the true and just, with evil must to battle go; yet shall in battle conquer and endure.

Then let me learn to trust Thee,

On Thee in faith to wait,

To fear not, and to sin not,
How sore soe'er my strait.
Not now, and not to-morrow,
But when it pleases Thee,
O Father, comes salvation
To all men, yea, to me.

All praise to GOD, Whose wondrous power
His children guides in danger's hour,
Whose work, though men to mar it strive,
In ageless glory shall survive.

Uplift the heart, the spirit raise

To Him Whom light and darkness praise.
When storms are loud, when waves are strong,
Then thank Him, as in festal song;
Thy joyful thanks to Him belong.
All praise to God.

Where Thou reignest, King of Glory,
Throned in everlasting light,

In Thy courts no more is needed
Sun by day, nor moon by night.

Soon may we those portals enter,
When this earthly strife is o'er,
There to reign with saints and angels,
In Thy presence evermore.

Praise to GOD, th'eternal Father,
Praise to GOD, th'eternal Son,
Praise to GOD, th'eternal Spirit,
One in Three, and Three in One.

Honour, praise, thanksgiving, blessing,
Now and evermore be done;

GOD most holy, we adore Thee,
Ever-blessed Trinity.

PSALM 1xxxvi. 1. Bow down Thine ear to me, O LORD, and hear me for I am poor and in misery.

3. Be merciful unto me, O LORD: for I will call daily upon Thee.

5. For Thou, LORD, art good and gracious and of great mercy unto all them that call upon Thee.

PSALM xli. 1. Blessed is he that considereth the poor and needy: the LORD shall deliver him in the time of trouble.

13. Blessed be the LORD GOD of Israel: world without end. Amen.

ACTS ii. 1. And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.

2. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.

3. And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.

4. And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them

utterance.

16. But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel;

17. And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith GOD, I will pour out of My Spirit upon all flesh and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams :

21. And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the Name of the LORD shall be saved.

Hear us, LORD! We bless the Name of our Redeemer! and all His great and wondrous mercies now and ever glorify!

To Him be glory evermore. Amen.

The fostering earth, the genial showers,
And ripening rays their work have done;
The seed consigned to nature's powers
Has borne its fruit, the harvest's won.
Still in its buoyant pride it stands,

And tempts the busy reaper's hands:
Soon as the loaded waggon heaves,
Rocked by the weight of fruitful sheaves,
Sing we the Harvest Home.

From field to field the work goes on,
From morn to eve we strive and toil,
Nor pause nor rest till we have won,
And gathered all the golden spoil.
For surely 'tis the noblest prize

The toil of man to man supplies:
Then, while the loaded waggon heaves,
Rocked by the weight of fruitful sheaves,
Sing we the Harvest Home.

And now our task is nearly o'er,

The last rich sheaf is made secure,
Once more we pile the gathered store
And make the year's great labour sure;
And they that glean may freely go
And gather up the overflow.

Shout while the loaded waggon heaves,
Sing to the sway of fruitful sheaves,
Sing to the Harvest Home.

*SONG OF SOLOMON ii. II, 12. Lo, the winter is past; the rain is over and gone. The flowers appear upon the earth, and the time of the singing birds is come. Praise the LORD.

[PSALM CXViii. 24. This is the day which the LORD hath made: we will rejoice and be glad in it. Alleluia. Amen.]* DEUTERONOMY Xxxii. 2. My speech shall distil as the dew, as the small rain upon the tender herb, and as showers upon the grass.

ST. MATTHEW vi. 28, 29. Consider the lilies of the field how they grow: they toil not, neither do they spin; and yet I say to you, That Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. Consider the lilies of the field. FAREBROTHer.

"CHRISTMAS EVE."
No. I.

Hear, ye hosts of angels,
Speed on wings unresting,
GOD Himself commands you!
Fly, from heaven descending,
Earthward is your mission:
Sing in exultation,

CHRIST the LORD to honour.
No. 2.

Behold, a Star appeareth,
Expectant eyes now meeting:
Arise, ye wakeful shepherds,
Your infant LORD be greeting:
Let man self-love abandon,
The Love made Man receiving.
(Sung at the same time as the above.)
Angelic hosts surround us,

From Heaven to earth descending,
Their songs of exultation
With Nature's voices blending.
O tidings sweet and blessed,
Which GOD to man is giving.
