WAREING.

SAVIOUR, again to Thy dear Name we raise
With one accord our parting hymn of praise;
We stand to bless Thee ere our worship cease;
Then, lowly kneeling, wait Thy word of peace.

Grant us Thy peace, LORD, through the coming night;
Turn Thou for us its darkness into light;

From harm and danger keep Thy children free,
For dark and light are both alike to Thee.

Grant us Thy peace throughout our earthly life,
Our balm in sorrow, and our stay in strife;
Then, when Thy voice shall bid our conflict cease,
Call us, O LORD, to Thine eternal peace.

1576

Amen.

TARRANT.

PSALM lxxxviii. 1. Domine Deus salutis meæ in die clamavi et nocte coram Te: intret in conspectu Tuo oratio mea; inclina aurem Tuam ad precem meam :

2. Quia repleta est malis anima mea, et vita mea inferno approquinquavit.

10. Numquid mortuis facies mirabilia, aut medici suscitabunt et confitebuntur Tibi?

PSALM vi. 9. Exaudivit Dominus deprecationem meam. PSALM CXXX. 5. Sustinuit anima mea in verbo ejus, speravit anima mea in Domino.

PSALM 1XXXviii. I. O LORD GOD of my salvation, nave cried day and night before Thee; let my prayer come before Thee; incline Thine ear unto my cry.

2. For my soul is full of trouble, and my life draweth

nigh to the grave.

10. Dost Thou shew wonders among the dead? shall the dead rise up again and praise Thee?

PSALM vi. 9. The LORD hath heard my supplication: the LORD will receive my prayer.

PSALM CXXX. 5. I look for the LORD, my soul doth wait for Him; in His word is my trust.

Amen.

PSALM CXlvii. 12. Praise the LORD, O Jerusalem: praise thy God, O Sion.

13. For He hath made fast the bars of thy gates, and hath blessed thy children within thee.

14. He maketh peace in thy borders, and filleth thee with the flour of wheat.

7, 9. O sing unto the LORD with thanksgiving: sing praise upon the harp. Sing praise to our GOD, Who covereth the heaven with clouds, and prepareth rain for the earth, and maketh the grass to grow upon the mountains, and herb for the use of men.

5. Great is our LORD, and great is His power: yea, and His wisdom is infinite.

Therefore unto Him we raise
Hymns of glory, songs of praise,
To the Father, and the Son,
And the Spirit, Three in One,
Honour, might, and glory be
Now, and through eternity.

Amen.

Love, that caused us first to be,
Love, that bled upon the tree,
Love, that draws us lovingly :

We beseech Thee, hear us.

[ocr errors][merged small][merged small]

O Great Absolver, grant my soul may wear
The lowliest garb of penitence and prayer,
That in the Father's House my glorious dress
May be the garment of Thy righteousness.

Yea, Thou wilt answer for me, Righteous LORD,
Thine all the merit, mine the great reward;
Thine the sharp thorns, mine the golden crown,
Mine the life won, Thine the life laid down.

Lead us daily nearer Thee,
Till at last Thy face we see,
Crowned with Thine own purity:
We beseech Thee, hear us.

Sweet SAVIOUR, bless us ere we go ;

Thy word into our minds instil,

GREGORY.

And make our lukewarm hearts to glow
With lowly love and fervent will.
Through life's long day and death's dark night,
O gentle JESUs, be our Light.

The day is done, its hours have run,
And Thou hast taken count of all,
The scanty triumphs grace hath won,
The broken vow, the frequent fall.

Through life's long day and death's dark night,
O gentle JESUS, be our Light.

Grant us, dear LORD, from evil ways
True absolution and release;

And bless us more, than in past days,
With purity and inward peace.

Through life's long day and death's dark night,
O gentle JESUS, be our Light.

For all we love, the poor, the sad,
The sinful, unto Thee we call ;
O let Thy mercy make us glad:
Thou art our JESUS, and our All.

Through life's long day and death's dark night,

O gentle JESUS, be our Light.

ISAIAH XXXiii. 5. The LORD is exalted, for He dwelleth on high: He hath filled Zion with judgment and righteous

ness.

9. The earth mourneth and languisheth.

10, 5. Now will I rise, saith the LORD, now will I be exalted, now will I lift up Myself, for He dwelleth on high. WEST.

PSALM 1xxxiv.

O LORD of Hosts, my King and GOD,

How lovely is the place

Where Thou, enthroned in glory, shew'st
The brightness of Thy face.

O LORD of Hosts, my King and GOD,
How highly blest are they
Who in Thy temple always dwell,
And there Thy praise display.

To Father, Son, and Holy Ghost,
The GOD Whom we adore,
Be glory, as it was, is now,

And shall be evermore. Amen.

English Version.

O King of Glory, LORD of power and might, Who hast this day as Conqueror ascended into the highest heavens. Leave us not comfortless, but send the promise of the Father upon us, even the Spirit of truth. Alleluia. ANONYMOUS.
