ST. LUKE ii. 8. There were shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flocks by night.

Thro' the silent night,

O Father, LORD, be near;
O keep us and our flocks

From danger and from fear.

9. And lo, the angel of the LORD came upon them, and the glory of the LORD shone around about them and they were sore afraid.

10. And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to you and all people.

11. For unto you is born this day a Saviour, Which is CHRIST the LORD.

13. And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host, praising GOD, and saying, 14. Glory to GOD in the highest, and peace on earth, good will towards men.

Amen.

PROVERBS iii. 13. Happy is the man that findeth wisdom, and the man that getteth understanding.

14. For the merchandise of it is better than silver, and the gain thereof than fine gold.

15. She is more precious than rubies, and all the things thou canst desire are not to be compared unto her.

16. Length of days is in her right hand, and in her left hand riches and honour.

17. Her ways are ways of pleasantness, and all her paths are peace.

ii. 2. If thou incline thine ear unto wisdom, and apply thine heart to understanding;

3. If thou criest after knowledge, and liftest up thy voice for understanding;

4. If thou seekest her as silver, and searchest for her as for hid treasures;

5. Then shalt thou understand the fear of the LORD, and find the knowledge of God.

I CHRONICLES XXIX. 10. Blessed art Thou, LORD, for ever and ever.

II. Thine, O LORD, is the greatness, and the power, and the glory, and the victory, and the majesty: for all that is in the heaven and in the earth is Thine: Thine is the Kingdom, O LORD, and Thou art exalted as head above all. 12, 14. Both riches and honour come of Thee, and of Thine own have we given Thee.

16. O LORD our GOD, all we have prepared to build an house for Thine holy Name cometh of Thine hand, and is all Thine own.

I KINGS Viii. 27. But will GOD in very deed dwell on the earth? behold, the heaven and heaven of heavens cannot contain Thee; how much less this house that we have builded?

28. Yet have Thou respect unto the prayer of Thy servants, and to their supplication,

29. That Thine eyes may be open toward this house night and day, even toward the place whereof Thou hast said, My Name shall be there.

PSALM Xxvii. 1. The LORD is my light, and my salvation; whom then shall I fear? the LORD is the strength of my life, of whom then shall I be afraid?

2. When the wicked, even mine enemies, and my foes, came upon me to eat up my flesh; they stumbled and fell. 3. Though an host of men were laid against me, yet shall not my heart be afraid: and though there rose up war against me, yet will I put my trust in Him.

4. One thing have I desired of the LORD, which I will require, even that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to behold the fair beauty of the LORD, and to visit His temple.

5. For in the time of trouble He shall hide me in His tabernacle yea, in the secret place of His dwelling shall He hide me, and set me up upon a rock of stone.

:

6. And now shall He lift up mine head above mine enemies round about me.

7. Therefore will I offer in His dwelling an oblation with great gladness: I will sing, and speak praises unto the LORD.

9. [My heart hath talked of Thee, seek ye my face :] Thy face, LORD, will I seek.

10. O hide not Thou Thy face from me, nor cast Thy servant away in displeasure.

II. Thou hast been my succour : leave me not, neither forsake me, O God of my salvation.

13. Teach me Thy way, O LORD, and lead me in the right way, because of mine enemies.

14. Deliver me not over into the will of mine adversaries; for there are false witnesses risen up against me, and such as speak wrong.

15. I should utterly have fainted, but that I believe verily to see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living.

16. O tarry thou the LORD's leisure: be strong, and He shall comfort thine heart; and put thou thy trust in the LORD.
