No. 4

LORD GOD of Hosts, that reign'st on high!

That man is truly blest

Who only on Thee doth rely,

And in Thee only rest.

843

THE CHRISTIAN'S PRAYER.

No. I

SPOHR.

In heaven, O JEHOVAH, is fixed Thy Throne;
No time Thy empire hath bounded-
Thou reignest there, unchanged, alone,
By thousand worlds surrounded!

Thine, Thine are majesty, power, and love;
Thou lightest the starry host above;

Thou causest the sun in his course to move :
Life, light, and joy by Thee are given,
Father and Lord of earth and heaven!

No. 2

Thy love is every morning new,

Its blessings all around extending;
Thy heavenly mercies fall like dew,
In soft and gentle showers descending.

LORD! LORD! our hearts would own Thy praise,

In joy or sorrow still the same;

The tongue that calls Thee Father, sings
For ever hallowed be Thy Name.

No. 3

Thy boundless grace, O GOD, we praise;
How bright on high its glories blaze,
And stream on all Thy works below!
Let every tongue and nation
Give praise and adoration

To Thee, from Whom all blessings flow.
LORD! we own Thy sovereign might,
Thy ways how just, Thy laws how right!
May Thy glorious Kingdom come!

No. 4

All-gracious Father, Heaven's high LORD,
From Thee all good, all joy descendeth :
Earth smiles, the garden of Thy love,

Where flower with flower in sweetest fragrance blendeth. O wisdom eternal, unchangeable might,

All worlds depend upon Thy breath:
Thy words direct our erring footsteps right,
Even through the night of death.

LORD! with joyful, thankful hearts
We celebrate Thy boundless love.

No. 5

O may Thy will be done on earth,
As it is done in heaven above!

No. 6

O clothe our valleys with ripening corn,
Our trees with autumn's produce bending;
May peaceful flocks our plains adorn,

O'er sunny hills our vines extending;

While nature's rich bounties around us are spread,
Give, O give us, we pray Thee, our daily bread!

No. 7

O LORD! by Heaven's bright armies surrounded,
Thou Whose power is resistless, unbounded,
Receive our adorations !

Gracious Father! bow Thine ear,
Spare Thy sons, in mercy spare ;
Hear, O hear their supplications !
How unsearchable Thy love!
Boundless as the heaven :
O forgive us, LORD, our sins,
As we hope to be forgiven.

Nos. 8 and 9

Thee, LORD, Thy creatures own,

GOD of Hosts, and King alone!

With reverence, with trembling, we own Thy power:

S

Heavenward our wishes, our hopes are ascending,
There shine Thy glories, unfading, unending,
There sin and death are known no more.

O when shall we soar to those regions of light,
Where glories immortal shall burst on our sight,

Thy goodness, Thy greatness, Thy love to adore? Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil, for Thou art Lord, and Thou art God our Father.

Thine is the Kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for evermore. Amen.

"THE LAST JUDGMENT."

PART I.

No. I OVERture.

No. 2

SPOHR.

Praise His awful Name, Who was, and is, and is to come: praise to Him Who giveth immortality; all glory and majesty surround His Throne. Worship and adore Him! Praise! Glory to GOD!

Mighty He cometh to judgment; for He shall judge the world in righteousness, and He shall judge His people with His truth.

Fear thou not, O man, for thy Redeemer liveth. He that died is risen, and He shall live to all eternity; and He shall reign, and shall conquer all His enemies. Praise His awful Name, &c.

"I know thy works, and thy labour, and thy patience; for My sake thou hast endured affliction. Yet thy first and chiefest duty thou hast forsaken, and thou art fallen from thy high estate. Repent, repent, and return to thy first work. Be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life."

Praise His awful Name, Who was, and is, and is to come; praise to Him Who giveth immortality; all glory and majesty surround His Throne. He alone is mighty, and He alone is great. Praise! Glory to GOD! Worship and adore Him. Praise! Glory to GOD! Praise! Glory to Him, Who was, and is, and is to come! Praise Him!

REVELATION iv. 1. "Come up hither, and I will shew thee what shall be hereafter."

2. And, lo, a Throne was set in Heaven, and on the Throne One stood.

3-5, 8. And a rainbow was round about the Throne; and the Elders knelt before the Throne, clad in white raiment and on their heads were crowns of gold: and from the Throne came thunderings and lightnings, and voices, crying day and night :

No. 4

"Holy, Holy, Holy, LORD GOD of Hosts! GOD Almighty! Who wast, and Who art, and art to come!" No. 5

v. 6. Behold the Lamb that was slain!

No 6

Weep no more; behold, He that died is risen, and hath conquered Death and Hell.

No. 7

8. And the Elders fell down before the Lamb, with their harps, and golden urns bearing odours, singing this song of praise :

No. 8

12. "All glory to the Lamb that died, exalted now at GOD's right hand in blessing, in wisdom, in honour, and praise for ever."

No. 9

13. And every creature that is in Heaven, and on the earth, and under the earth, and in the sea, cried aloud, and said:

No. 10

13. "Blessing, honour, glory and power, be unto Him that sitteth upon the Throne, and unto the Lamb for ever!"

No. II

vii. 9. And, lo, a mighty host of all nations and people stood before the Throne and the Lamb. Of spotless white was every garment: in every hand a palm was borne. They fell before the Throne of God with holy fear.

14. These, who passed through heavy tribulation, have washed their robes and made them white in the Blood of the Lamb.

15. They stand before God's Throne, and serve Him day and night.

17. And the Lamb shall lead them to fountains of living waters, and GOD shall wipe away all tears from their eyes.

No. 12

LORD GOD of Heaven and earth, we adore Thee!

Yes, every tear and every sorrow the LORD shall wipe away from their eyes: nor sin, nor death, nor pain, nor sorrow shall there be known. He is our GOD, and we are His people. Hail, our Redeemer! Hail!

Blessing and power be Thine, our Redeemer! the LORD our GOD, and we are Thy people. Redeemer! Hail!

Thou art Hail, our

PART II.

No. 13 SYMPHONY.

No. 14

Thus saith the LORD: "The end is near, and all the winds of heaven proclaim its coming. Prepare to meet thy GOD. I will reward thee even as thy works have been, and judge thee as thou hast deserved. To Me is every action known, each secret thought is unveiled before Me.

The day of wrath is near, the Almighty shall reveal His power. The reaper's song is silent in the field, and the shepherd's voice on the mountain. The valleys then shall shake with fear, with dread the hills shall tremble. It comes, the day of terror comes! The awful morning dawns. Thy mighty arm, O GOD, is uplifted. Thou shalt shake the earth and heavens: they shall shrivel as a scroll, when Thou in wrath appearest. For men shall cast away their silver, and count their gold as dross it shall not save in the great and awful day. Where is now the monarch's might, where all his splendour, where the dreams of earthly greatness? The princes of the earth shall cast their crowns before Thee, and all the power of the mighty shall fail, when Thou, O LORD, shall come to judge the world.
