30 When thou letteft thy breath go forth, they shall be made: and thou shalt renew the face of the earth.

31 The glorious Majefty of the Lord fhall endure for ever: the Lord fhall rejoice in his works.

32 The earth fhall tremble at the look of him: if he do but touch the hills, they fhall fmoke.

33 I will fing unto the Lord as long as I live: I will praise my God while I have my being.

34 And so shall my words please him: my joy shall be in the Lord.

35 As for finners, they fhall be confumed out of the earth, and the ungodly fhall come to an end: praise thou the Lord, O my foul, praise the Lord.

MORNING

PRAYER.

§ Pfalm 105. Confitemini Domino.

GIVE thanks unto the Lord, and call upon his Name: tell the people what things he hath done.

1

2 O let your fongs be of him, and praise him: and let your talking be of all his wondrous works.

3 Rejoice in his holy Name: let the heart of them rejoice

that seek the Lord.

4 Seek the Lord and his ftrength: seek his face evermore,

5

* Remember the marvellous works that he hath done: his wonders, and the judgments of his mouth;

6 O ye feed of Abraham his fervant: ye children of Jacob his chofen.

7 He is the Lord our God: his judgments are in all the world.

This is an hiftorical Pfalm and contains the affairs of the Ifraelites from Abrakam to their going out of Egypt. Herein the Author principally celebrates God's goodness in adopting the Jews for his People, and de

livering them from slavery.

* Remember the marvellous works that he hath done, &e. Tho' the following events which are recorded in this Pfalm do not direly regard Chriftians: yet they

8 He hath been alway mindful of his covenant and promise: that he made to a thoufand generations;

9 Even the covenant that he made with Abraham: and the oath that he sware unto Ifaac;

10 And appointed the fame unto Jacob for a law: and to Ifrael for an everlasting teftament,

11 Saying, Unto thee will I give the land of Canaan: the lot of your inheritance.

12 When there were yet but a few of them: and they ftrangers in the land;

13 What time as they went from one nation to another: from one kingdom to another people;

14 He fuffered no man to do them wrong: but reproved even kings for their fakes.

15 Touch not mine anointed: and do my prophets no harm. 16 Moreover, he called for a dearth upon the land: and destroyed all the provifion of bread.

17 But he had fent a man before them: even Jofeph, who was fold to be a bond-fervant;

18 Whose feet they hurt in the ftocks: the iron entered into his foul;

19 Until the time came that his caufe was known: the word of the Lord tried him.

20 The king sent, and delivered him: the prince of the people let him go free.

21 He made him lord alfo of his houfe: and ruler of all his fubftance;

22 That he might inform his princes after his will: and teach his fenators wifdom.

naturally raife our thoughts to the confideration of thofe fignal Mercies and fpiritual Bleffings which God hath bestowed upon us in Chrift Jefus; by delivering us from the Captivity of Sin and Death, admitting us

into a new Covenant with him, and affording us the bleffed hopes of an eternal Inheritance in Heaven, of which Canaan was but a faint Emblem.

24 And he increafed his people exceedingly: and made them ftronger than their enemies;

25 Whofe heart turned fo, that they hated his people: and dealt untruly with his fervants.

26 Then fent he Mofes his fervant: and Aaron whom he had chofen.

27 And these fhewed his tokens among them: and wonders in the land of Ham.

28 He fent darkness, and it was dark: and they were not obedient unto his word.

29 He turned their waters into blood: and flew their fish.

30 Their land brought forth frogs: yea, even in their kings chambers.

31 He fpake the word, and there came all manner of flies: and lice in all their quarters.

34 He fpake the word, and the grafhoppers came, and caterpillers innumerable: and did eat up all the grafs in their land, and devoured the fruit of their ground.

35 He fmote all their first-born in their land: even the chief of all their strength.

36 He brought them forth alfo with filver and gold: there was not one feeble perfon among their tribes.

37 Egypt was glad at their departing for they were afraid of them.

38 He fpread out a cloud to be a covering: and fire to give light in the night-seafon.

39 At their defire he brought quails: and he filled them with the bread of heaven.

40 He opened the rock of stone, and the waters flowed out: so that rivers ran in the dry places.

41 For why? he remembered his holy promise: and Abraham his fervant.

42 And he brought forth his people with joy and his chosen with gladness;

43 And gave them the lands of the heathen: and they took the labours of the people in poffeffion;

§ Pfalm 106. Confitemini Domino.

GIVE thanks unto the Lord, for he is gracious: and his mercy endureth for ever.

2 Who can express the noble acts of the Lord: or fhew forth all his praife?

3 Bleffed are they that alway keep judgment: and do righteousness.

4 Remember me, O Lord, according to the favour that thou bearest unto thy people: O vifit me with thy falvation.

5 * That I may fee the felicity of thy chofen: and rejoice in the gladness of thy people, and give thanks with thine inheritance. 6 We have finned with our fathers: we have done amifs, and dealt wickedly.

7 Our fathers regarded not thy wonders in Egypt, neither kept they thy great goodness in remembrance: but were disobedient at the fea, even at the Red fea.

8 Nevertheless, he helped them for his Names fake: that he might make his power to be known.

This Pfalm is of the fame nature with the preced ing and contains the History of the Ifraelites from their going out of Egypt to the latter times of the Jewish State and was probably wrote when they were in Captivity.

That I may fee the felicity of thy chofen. The Jews were faid to be God's chofen or elect People, becaufe God, in his infinite wisdom and goodness, was

pleafed to prefer them before any other Nation, and to fingle them out for the purposes of revelation, and preferving the knowledge, worship, and obedience of the true God. In like manner the whole body of Chrif tians are called the elect or, chofen; as they are felect ed from the rest of the World, and taken into the Kingdom of God for the knowledge, worship and odedience of God, in hopes of eternal Life. Wherefore

9 He rebuked the Red sea alfo, and it was dried up: fo he led them through the deep, as through a wilderness.

IO And he faved them from the adverfaries hand: and delivered them from the hand of the enemy.

II As for those that troubled them, the waters overwhelmed them: there was not one of them left.

12 Then believed they his words: and fang praise unto him. 13 But within a while they forgat his works: and would not abide his counsel.

14 But luft came upon them in the wilderness: and they tempted God in the defert.

15 And he gave them their defire: and fent leannefs withal into their foul.

16 They angred Mofes alfo in the tents: and Aaron the faint of the Lord.

17 So the earth opened, and fwallowed up Dathan: and covered the congregation of Abiram.

18 And the fire was kindled in their company: the flame burnt up the ungodly.

19 They made a calf in Horeb: and worshipped the molten image.

20 Thus they turned their glory: into the fimilitude of a calf that eateth hay.

21 And they forgat God their Saviour: who had done fo great things in Egypt;

22 Wondrous works in the land of Ham: and fearful things by the Red fea.

23 So he faid, he would have destroyed them, had not Mofes his chosen stood before him in the gap: to turn away his wrathful indignation, lest he should deftroy them.

24 Yea, they thought scorn of that pleasant land: and gave no credence unto his word.

(St. Peter fays) the rather, Brethren, give diligence to make your Calling and Election fure.
