Jesus wept. Then said the Jews; "Behold, how he loved him!" And some of them said; "Could not this man, which opened the eyes of the blind, have caused that even this man should not have died?" Jesus therefore again groaning in himself, cometh to the grave. It was a cave, and a stone lay upon it. Jesus said; "Take ye away the stone." Martha, the sister of him that was dead, said unto him; 66 Lord, by this time he stinketh; for he hath been dead four days." Jesus saith unto her; " Said I not unto thee, that if thou wouldest believe, thou shouldest see the glory of God?" Then they took away the stone from the place where the dead was laid. And Jesus lifted up his eyes, and said; "Father, I thank thee that thou hast heard me. And I knew that thou hearest me always; but because of the people which stand by, I said it, that they may believe that thou hast sent me." And when he thus had spoken, he cried with a loud voice; Lazarus, come forth." And he that was dead came forth, bound hand and foot with grave clothes; and his face was bound about with a napkin. Jesus saith unto them; Loose him, and let him go." Then many of the Jews which came to Mary, and had seen the things which Jesus did, believed on him. But some of them went their ways to the Pharisees, and told them what things Jesus had done. Then gathered the chief priests and the Pharisees a council, and said; "What do we? for this man doeth many miracles. If we let him thus alone, all men will believe on him; and the Romans shall come, and take away both our place and nation." And one of them, named Caiaphas, being the high priest that same year, said unto them; "Ye know nothing at all, nor consider that it is expedient for us, that one man should die for the people, and that the whole nation perish not." And this spake he not of himself; but being high priest that year, he prophesied that Jesus should die for that nation; and not for that nation only, but that also he should gather together in one the children of God that were scattered abroad. Then from that day forth they took counsel together for to put him to death. Jesus therefore walked no more openly among the Jews, but went thence unto a country near to the wilderness, into a city called Ephraim; and there continued with his disMi ciples. And when he was departed thence, -13. he went into their synagogue. And, behold, there was a man which had his hand withered. And they asked him, saying; "Is it lawful to heal on the sabbath days?" that they might accuse him. And he said unto them; "What man shall there be among you that shall have one sheep, and if it fall into a pit on the sabbath day, will he not lay hold on it, and lift it out? How much then is a man better than a sheep? G-12. Wherefore it is lawful to do well on the sabbath days?" Then saith he to the man ; "Stretch forth thine hand." And he stretched it forth; and it was restored whole, like as the other. And the Pharisees went forth, and Mi straightway took counsel with the Herodians. against him, how they might destroy him. But Jesus withdrew himself with his disciples to the sea; and a great multitude from Galilee followed him; and from Judea, and from Jerusalem, and from Idumea, and from beyond Jordan, and they about Tyre and Sidon, a great multitude, when they heard what great things he did, came unto him. And he spake to his disciples, that a small ship should wait on him because of the multitude, lest they should throng him. For he had healed many, insomuch that they pressed upon him, for to touch him, as many as had plagues. And unclean spirits, when they saw him, fell down before him, and cried, saying; "Thou art the Son of God." And he straitly charged them that they should not make him known; that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying; "Behold my servant, whom I have chosen, my beloved, in whom my soul is well pleased; I will put my spirit upon him, and he shall shew judgment to the Gentiles. He shall not strive, nor cry, neither shall any man hear his voice in the streets; a bruised reed shall he not break, and smoking flax shall he not quench; till he send forth judgment unto victory. And when his friends heard of it, they went out to lay hold on him; for they said; 66 He is beside himself." Mt.xii. Then was brought unto him one possessed with a devil, blind and dumb; and he healed him, insomuch that the blind and dumb both spake and saw. And all the people were amazed, and said; "Is not this the Son of David ?" But when the Pharisees heard it, they said; "This fellow doth not cast out devils, but by Beelzebub, the prince of devils. And Jesus knew their thoughts, and said unto them; "Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and every city or house divided against itself shall not stand. And if Satan cast out Satan, he is divided against himself, how shall then his kingdom stand? And if I by Beelzebub cast out devils, by whom do your children cast them out? Therefore they shall be your judges. But if I cast out devils by the Spirit of God, then the kingdom of God is come unto you. Or else, how can one enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he first bind the strong man? and then he will spoil his house. that is not with me, is against me; and he that gathereth not with me, scattereth abroad. Wherefore I say unto you; All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men; He Holy Ghost but the blasphemy against the shall not be forgiven unto men. ever speaketh a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him; but whosoever speaketh against the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, neither in the world to come. Either make the tree good, and his fruit good; or else make the tree corrupt, and his fruit corrupt; for the tree is known by his fruit. O generation of vipers, how can ye, being evil, speak good things? for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh. A good man, out of the good treasure of the heart, bringeth forth good things; and an evil man, out of evil treasure, bringeth forth evil things. But I say unto you, that every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment. For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned." 66 Then certain of the Scribes and of the Pharisees answered, saying; Master, we But he an would see a sign from thee." swered and said unto them; "An evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given to it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas. For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale's belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.
