CHRIST DEATH OF, ITS DESIGN. Gen. 3.15. I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.

Isa. 53.4. Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. 5. But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. 6. All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the Lord hath laid on him the iniquity of us all. 8. He was cut off out of the land of the living: for the transgression of my people was he stricken.

Isa. 53.10. It pleased the Lord to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the Lord shall prosper in his hand. 11. He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied: by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities. 12. Therefore will I divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong; because he hath poured out his soul unto death: and he was numbered with the transgressors; and he bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors. v. 1-12.

Luk. 24.26. Ought not Christ to have suffered these things, and to enter into his glory? Jno. 1.29. Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.

Jno. 3.14. As Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up: 15. That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life. 16. For God so loved the world, that he gave his only-begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.

Jno. 6.51. The bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.

Jno. 10.11. The good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep. 15. I lay down my life for the sheep. 17. Therefore doth my Father love me, because I lay down my life, that I might take it again.

Jno. 11.50. It is expedient for us, that one man should die for the people, and that the whole nation perish not. 51. Jesus should die for that nation; 52. And not for that nation only, but that also he should gather together in one the children of God that were scattered abroad.

Jno. 12.24. Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit. 31. Now is the judgment of this world: now shall the prince of this world be cast out. 32. And if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me. 33. Rom. 4.25. Who was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification.

Rom. 5.6. When we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. 7. Scarcely for a righteous man will one die yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die. 8. But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. 9. Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him. 10. For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life. 11. We also joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we have now received the atonement.

Rom. 6.3. Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? 4. Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death; that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. 5. For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection. 9. Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over him. 10. For in that he died, he died unto sin once.

Rom. 8.3. God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh. 32. He that spared not his own son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things? 34. Who is he that condemneth? It is

2 Cor. 5.14. The love of Christ constraineth us; because we thus judge, that if one died for all, then were all dead : 15. And that he died for all, that they which live should not henceforth live unto themselves, but unto him which died for them, and rose again. 19. God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation. 21. He hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

Eph. 1.6. He hath made us accepted in the beloved. 7. In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace,

Eph. 2.13. Now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ. 14. He is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us; 15. Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments contained in ordinances; for to make in himself of twain one new man, so making peace; 16. And that he might reconcile both unto God in one body by the cross, having slain the enmity thereby. Eph. 5.2.

Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling savour. 25. Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it; 26. That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word; 27. That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.

Col. 1.14. In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins. 20. Having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven. 21. Now hath he reconciled, 22. In the body of his flesh through death, to present you holy and unblameable and unreproveable in his sight.

Col. 2.14. Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross; 15. And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a show of them openly, triumphing over them in it.

our sins.

Heb. 2.9. We see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of

death, crowned with glory and honour; that he by the grace of God should taste death for every man. 10. To make the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings. 14. As the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil; 15. And deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage. 18. In that he himself hath suffered being tempted, he is able to succour them that are tempted.

Heb. 9.12. Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us. 13. For if the blood of bulls and of goats, and the ashes of an heifer sprinkling the unclean, sanctifieth to the purifying of the flesh: 14. How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God? 15. And for this cause he is the mediator of the new testament, that by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions that were under the first testament, they which are called might receive the promise of eternal inheritance.

Heb. 9.16. For where a testament is, there must also of necessity be the death of the testator.

17. For a testament is of force after men are dead: otherwise it is of no strength at all while the testator liveth. 25. Nor yet that he should offer himself often, as the high-priest entereth into the holy place every year with blood of others; 26. For then must he often have suffered since the foundation of the world: but now once in the end of the world hath he appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself. 28. Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many

Heb. 10.10. We are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. 12. This man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God. 14. By one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified. 17. Their sins and iniquities will I remember no more. 18. Now where remission of these is, there is no more offering for sin. 19. Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus, 20. By a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for us, through the vail, that is to say, his flesh.

knowledge of God the Father, through sanctification of the Spirit, unto obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ. 18. Ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; 19. But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot: 20. Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you, 21. Who by him do believe in God, that raised him up from the dead, and gave him glory; that your faith and hope might be in God.

1 Pet. 2.21. Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps: 24. Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.

1 Pet. 3.18. Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit.
