In times of illness and of watching beside one in sickness or sorrow, it has been the solace of the Compiler of these pages, as the weary hours were struck by the clock, or noted on the dial, to reflect on some circumstance connected with each in Holy Scripture; particularly those relating to the Passion of our Lord. Such reflections he has here attempted to arrange in order, for the use of himself and others, with the assistance of some approved Harmonies of the Gospel History. Under the several hours will be found notices (taken from the headings of the chapters in the Bible) of the events of our Lord's Passion belonging to, and ending at each period, from the celebration of the Passover to His burial; references to the whole passages; extracts of some of the most remarkable words; and prayers, selected or arranged, with some exceptions, from the Book of Common Prayer.
