HONORARY RECOGNITION TO LEADERS IN AGRICULTURE THE CONNECTICUT · AGRICULTURAL COLLEGE IN RECOGNITION OF EMINENT SERVICE TO AGRICULTURE AND RURAL LIFE IN THE. STATE OF CONNECTICUT THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES UPON THE RECOMMENDATION CHARLES JUDSON ABELL Charles Judson Abell was born at Lebanon, Connecticut, September 25, 1848, being fourth in descent from Caleb Abell, the first settler in Lebanon. Since 1872 he has been a dairy farmer. He has been a director of the New England Milk Producers' Association and a member of the Providence Sales Committee since 1919. He was one of the first directors of the New London County Farm Bureau and was president in 1921 and 1922. He has been Town Clerk since 1892, and chairman of his Town Committee since 1884. He represented his town in the General Assembly in 1883. For more than half a century, Mr. Abell has been engaged in dairy farming. Throughout Eastern Connecti cut he has been recognized not only as a successful and progressive farmer, but as a farm leader of the best type. He has been a very strong factor in building up the New London County Farm Bureau, and has given especial attention to the dairy marketing problems of his section. No farmer can be found whose career better exemplifies the persistnt earnestness of effort, honesty and unselfishness of purpose, and ability and power in accomplishment, which are a necessary part of the equipment of a farmer leader of a Connecticut rural communv. C. J. Abell's life and work is an admirable example of this type of leadership. |
