SINCE AGRICULTURAL REPORT. our laft, a favourable alteration of the weather, although the interval has not been long, has enabled the farmer to engage himself with activity in all the varied operations of husbandry. Beans are by this time generally, and, we truft, very well, got in excepting upon the wetteft foils; and black oats are next in feed courfe. From a pretty univerfal account, we happily do not find the wheats, as lately apprehended, have been unfavourably affected by the longcontinued rains; on the contrary, they look particularly ftrong and fine where drilled or planted. The winter tares and rape have been beat down in fome parts, but are generally well spoken of: turnips are no where good, and at the pinch of the feafon, that is to fay, in a month or fix weeks, confiderable diftrefs will be experienced in various quarters, for the fupport of live flock. It may be remembered with pleasure, that the latt year's fummer-tallows were made with peculiar fuccefs from the drynefs of the feafon, and confequently the prefent wheat crops may be expected (where they fallow for wheat) to be very clean, and the foil free from the exhauftion of weeds. The artificial graffes will, in all probability, turn out a great crop this year, and there is an appearance of fmiling plenty, which will cheer the public mind, although it is to be highly regretted, that very many, even intelligent and induftrious farmers, who have unfortunately taken their leafes after the rate of the late exorbitant price of the neceffaries of life, will be heavy fufferers; in fact, that many of them will be totally unable to fubfift under their too heavy burdens; a cafe, which we warmly recommend to the consideration and the clemency of their landlords. It is highly important to the interes of an agricultural country, that the farmers be fuccefsful and well provided with capital, in order that they may be able, both to extract to the utmost the fruitfulness of the foil, and to render it permanent. Fat ftock, of all kinds, has continued in a progreffive flate of decline in price, fince autumn, and as it ufually happens in feafons of fuperabundance, we have had no fpring rife in the market; every week lower, and every week an overflow at Smithfield, unto this day. It is even a ftrong profeffional opinion, that were it not for a conftant war-demand, by contract, which makes a regular weekly fweep of the furplus of the market, fleth meat would have been retailed at this inftant at three-pence per pound. The chief caufe of keeping down prices has arifen from the immenfe quantit es of pork bred and fed within the last year or two, which we owe to the large fucceffive crops of barley: to the fame caufe we owe great quantities of excellent corn-fed beef, now on the market. The finest milk-fed pork in England was, on the 20th inftant, fold at Barnet market at fix-pence per pound by the carcass; the best country corn-fed at five-pence; inferior at and under four-pence halfpenny. It may not be improper nor unfair to hint, that the trade of a London cuttingbutcher has, for a long time pait, been one of the best in England; and we hope they have and will continue to ufe their difcretion, in affixing the price of their own goods with an honourable moderation; a thing, however, at any time eafily determined by their intelligent customers. We have still farther accounts of the fubftitution of oxen for horses, in farm labour; and the time is now exceedingly favourable for that much defired improvement. Corn markets are every where on the decline progreffively, as with live ftock; and should there be a good blooming time for wheat, there is no faying to what degree the markets may be affected, fuch a vast breadth is there of it in the country. Barley in Norfolk, and Lincolnshire, is as low as feventeen or eighteen fhillings per quarter; and as to fleth meat, there is no getting out of mutton or beef in the country, fince pork is at once to plentiful and fo general an article of diet. The improvement of our fine woolled fheep is going on with increased spirit, from the patriotic exertions of his Majefty, of Lord Somerville, and of the Bath Society. Lord Somerville's Spanih Tups are in high eftimation whereever they have been tried. A fingle crofs of the Spanish ram incrcates remarkably both the quantity and the value of the wool of our native fheep; and when it happens that the produce turns out finaller in carcats, more of them, in proportion, may be kept per acre; and they have every where experienced a ready fale at the first price.
