Cette pièce est une de ces nombreuses impostures littéraires, non moins communes en Orient qu'en Occident. L'auteur anonyme et inconnu de celle-ci avoit au moins pour excuse l'intérêt, la sûreté même des chrétiens ses coreligionnaires; car il étoit probablement chrétien, comme le prouve l'omission du Bismillah. Le Prophète ou son secrétaire n'auroit pas oublié cette formule à la tête d'un acte aussi important que celui-ci ;

quand eux, ainsi que tous les musulmans, n'ont jamais manqué de l'insérer en tête des écrits les plus insignifiants. On connoit la religieuse aversiou des chrétiens pour cette formule, qu'ils regardent comme un des signes les plus caractéristiques de la religion musulmane. Langlès. 283.
