Englischer Kunstfleiß.

Der Caffee, wie man ihn in England macht, hat den Ausländern lange zum Spott gedient; er ist gewöhns lich so schwach, so dünne, so kraftlos, als ob die Eng lander sich einbildeten, er müsse wie der ihnen unent= behrlich gewordene Thee behandelt werden. Das macht, man trank bisher wenig Caffee in England. Aber die Nation lernt täglich mehr Geschmack daran finden, welches untrüglich durch die lette Larenliste bewiesen wurde, wo auch der Caffee mit einer neuen Abgabe bes legt ist. Hierzu mag wohl die vermehrte Einfuhr etwas beygetragen haben, denn im englischen Westindien, beson ders in Jamaica, wird nach Mackinneus *) neuester Angas be, gegenwärtig ungleich mehr Caffee gebaut, als ehedem. Was die Zubereitung anlangt, so wissen die Engländer aus der ersten Hand, wie man am besten dabey verfährt: Eton sowohl in seinen vortreflichen Nachrichten vom türkischen Reiche, als auch der Dr. Griffiths, dessen Reisen vor kurzem erschienen sind, hat die arabis sche oder türkische Art, Caffee zu machen, genau be schrieben. Unter anderm erfährt man dort, wie der ges kochte Caffee von den Arabern und Türken abgeklärt wird. Indessen ist ihr Verfahren theils hier nicht so anwendbar als dort, theils bleibt es dem caffeetrinkenden Publikum, welches keinen großen Umgang mit Bus chern hat, verborgen.
