Eine neue Ausgabe von Pope's Werken mit Zu fåßen und neuen Erläuterungen hat man von dem Prediger Lisle Bowles Verfasser eines Bandes Sonnette 2c. zu erwarten. Herr Fitzwilliam läßt eine Sammlung erotischer Gediate unter dem Titel: Aphrodisia drucken; es find theils Ueberschungen aus orientalischen und europäischen Sprachen, theils Originale. Herr Rigland läßt Briefe über den jezigen Zustand in Europa drucken. Gifford's Ausgabe des englischen Comikers Massinger verspricht dem Litterator viel Genuß. Es zeigt sich, daß der jest gangbare Zert äußerst verderbt ist. Gifford hat ihn durch genaue Vergleichung der frühern Ausgaben hergestellt und critische und erklärende Ans. merkungen nebst einer Beurtheilung der Verdienste und Fehler eines jeden Stücks hinzugefügt. Der berühmte Malone hat dem Herausgeber ein Fragment eines nicht gedruckten Schauspiels von Massinger mitgetheilt; es 1st deswegen blos Bruchstück, weil der untere Theil der Blattseiten des ganzen Manuscripts durch die Länge der Zeit vermodert ist. Die Topographie von Troja des Herrn Gell (den Titel s. hinten) ist eine sehr nügliche und angenehme Ausbeute der Reisen eines jungen reichen Mannes, der Kenntniße befitt. Jeder Verehrer des Homers wird das kostbare Werk mit gröstem Interesse betrachten. Er arbeitet nun an einem ähnlichen Werke, welches die Be=" schreibung seiner Reisen durch die dalmatischen Inseln enthalten und den Titel Ithaca führen wird. Im verflossenen Monate ist keine neue Erfindung bekannt worden, die eine Erwähnung verdiente. Man hat viel von einer sogenannten unüberwindlichen Batte= rie gesprochen, welche bombenfest und für Schiffe eins gerichtet seyn soll.
