A pious and amiable gentleman, and an agreeable writer. Born at Glenburne, Suffex, about 1700. Educated at Oxford, whence he removed to the Temple. In 1734 elected member for Sleaford, which he reprefented till his death. Became Keeper of the Records in the Tower. Died 1755. In his Effay on Deformity he defcants with humour and livelinefs on his own perfonal imperfection. His works were published in 2 vol. 4°. Lond. 1794. A learned schoolmafter. Born 1581. Entered of Lincoln College, Oxford, 1599. One of the ufhers of Merchant Tailors' fchool, London, 1604. Afterwards Uther at Chrift's Hofpital. Died 1645. He was a noted critic, an excellent linguift, and a folid divine. The general view of the Holy Scriptures; or, the times, places, and perfons, in handling whereof is fhewed God's dealing with mankind, and occafion is given to explain fundry difficult places of Scripture, and to fet forth the lives of kings, patriarchs, prophets, and faints, all leading unto Jefus Chrift. His editions of early English hiftorians are in great reputation, and of great rarity and price.
