THIRD WEEK.

A

Lord's Day Morning.

LMIGHTY GOD, who hast spared us to see another return of the Christian Sabbath; we give Thee thanks for the privileges which on this sacred day Thou art pleased to bestow upon us, and humbly implore the grace of Thy Holy Spirit, that we may worthily use them, for our good and for Thy glory.

This is the day which the Lord hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it. Save now, we beseech Thee, O Lord; O Lord, we beseech Thee, send now prosperity. Glory be to Thee, O God, who didst, as on this day, raise up Thy Son from the dead, and give Him glory, that our faith and hope might be in Thee. Thou art our God, and we will praise Thee; Thou art our God, we will exalt Thee. O give thanks unto the Lord; for He is good; for His mercy endureth for ever.

Holy, holy, holy, Lord God of Hosts; the whole earth is full of Thy glory. Thou hast prepared Thy throne in the heavens, and Thy kingdom ruleth over all. Honour and majesty are before Thee; strength and beauty are

in Thy sanctuary. Help us to give the glory that is due to Thee, who art the former of our bodies and the Father of our spirits, the giver of every good and perfect gift, the strength of our life, and the Rock of our Salvation.

witness against us.

O our God, we are ashamed, and blush to lift up our faces unto Thee. Our hearts condemn us, and our sins Behold! we are men of unclean lips, and we dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips; and we are not worthy to approach Thy presence, or to utter Thy blessed name. Neither are we able of ourselves to render any acceptable service to Thee. When we would do good, evil is present with us. Our souls cleave to the dust, when we would lift them up to heaven. Innumerable worldly thoughts intrude upon us, even in our most devout exercises. And often, when the words of prayer are on our lips, our hearts are far from Thee.

O Lord, with whom is forgiveness that Thou mayest be feared, and plenteous redemption; have mercy upon us. O God, who hast not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ; have mercy

upon us.

Remember not against us former transgressions; but according to Thy mercy remember Thou us, for Thy goodness' sake, O Lord. Justify us freely by Thy grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus. And grant that, through the intercession of Thy beloved Son, and by the effectual working of Thy Holy Spirit, our prayers and praises may be well pleasing in Thy sight.

Father of mercies, receive our humble and hearty thanks for all Thy goodness. We bless Thy name, that Thou hast bountifully provided for us, not only such things as are serviceable for the body, but such also as

are needful for the soul. We thank Thee for the holy rest of Thy Day, for the instructions of Thy Word, for the ordinances of Thy worship, for the promised grace of Thy Holy Spirit, and above all, for Jesus Christ, Thine unspeakable gift, in whom Thou hast blessed us with all spiritual and heavenly blessings. Forbid, O God, that the privileges we enjoy should rise up against us to our condemnation. Grant that our profiting by them may appear in a life of consistent obedience to Thy will; and that all the institutions and observances of Thy Church on earth may prepare us for the higher and purer worship of the Church in heaven.

O Lord, who hast said that where two or three are gathered together in Thy name, there art Thou in the midst of them, be present this day in all the assemblies of Thy people. Let Thy Word everywhere have free course and be glorified. Assist Thy ministering servants in proclaiming it; and open the hearts of all Thy people, for the humble, faithful, and profitable reception of it.

Draw nigh to such as are necessarily withheld from joining in the public worship of Thy Church; and grant unto them, in the retirement of their dwellings, the joy of Thy favour and the comfort of Thy fellowship. Have pity on those who wilfully forsake or profane Thine ordinances, and bring them to repentance. Increase everywhere the number of Thy true worshippers; and hasten the time when, throughout the whole world, Thy name shall be honoured, and Thy Word believed and obeyed.

Incline Thine ear, O God, to our supplications, which we offer in the name of Thy beloved Son, our Lord and Saviour.-Amen.

A

Lord's Day Evening.

LMIGHTY GOD, who hast given us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, we thank Thee for the hallowed rest of another Sabbath, and for our renewed opportunities this day of hearing Thy Word, and showing forth Thy praise.

Pardon, we beseech Thee, whatever Thy pure eye hath seen to be amiss in our attempts to serve Thee. Enter not into judgment with us, O Lord, for the weakness of our faith, the wandering of our thoughts, the levity of our dispositions, the coldness of our affections. But grant, through the merits of our High Priest, who beareth the iniquity of our holy things, that our humble endeavours, though polluted with much sin, and marred by many infirmities and imperfections, may yet, for His sake, be acceptable in Thy sight.

Let it please Thee also to bless for our edification those lessons of divine truth, which have this day been addressed to us. Suffer not the seed of Thy Word to be caught away by the wicked one out of our hearts; but cause it to take such root within us, that it may neither be scorched by the heat of tribulation, nor choked by the cares and pleasures of this life, but that, as precious seed sown in good ground, it may bring forth fruit abundantly to Thy praise.

We confess, O God, that we have often been forgetful and unprofitable hearers of Thy Word; and that we cannot of ourselves receive, as we ought, the things which it declares to us. Pardon, for Christ's sake, the listlessness and inattention wherewith we are prone to regard Thy heavenly teaching. And give us grace, that hence

forth we may be enabled to hear Thy Word diligently, to receive it meekly, and to lay it up in our hearts by faith, so as to be made wise unto salvation, and thoroughly furnished unto all good works.

Keep us mindful that Thy Word is designed to be the subject of constant meditation, and the habitual rule of faith and duty. Cause it to dwell in us richly in all wisdom. Imprint its precious truths upon our hearts; and enable us, by the grace of Thy Holy Spirit, to walk more and more in accordance with its precepts.

Graciously hear us, O God, while we plead with Thee, not for ourselves only, but also for our fellow-men. Open, we beseech Thee, a great and effectual door for the preaching of Thy blessed Gospel everywhere. Remove the veil from the hearts of Thine ancient people; dispel the darkness and superstition of the heathen; and hasten the time when all the ends of the earth shall turn to Thee, and all the kindreds of the nations shall worship before Thee. Bless Thy whole Church; heal its divisions; purify it from error and corruption; and grant that the hearts of all its members may be united as the heart of one man, in the belief and love of the truth.

Bestow Thy special blessing, we beseech Thee, on our Sovereign the Queen, the Prince and Princess of Wales, and all the other members of the Royal Family. Give them grace that they may adorn their high station; and make them signal instruments of advancing Thy glory and the public good.

Incline the hearts of Christian parents to bring up their children in the nurture and admonition of the Lord; that they may be prepared rightly to fulfil their several callings in this life, and in the life to come may inherit Thy heavenly kingdom.
