Monday Morning.

LMIGHTY GOD, our heavenly Father, who hast safely brought us to the beginning of this day; continue to us, throughout the course of it, Thy fatherly guidance and protection. Defend us from all danger; keep us from all sin; and so direct and govern us by Thy Holy Spirit, that we may walk in uprightness before Thee, and do always that which is pleasing in Thy sight.

We confess, O God, that we are prone to forget Thee amidst the concerns and business of our daily life, and that we have in many things grievously offended Thee by our wilful disobedience to Thy commandments. Pardon,

we beseech Thee, for the sake of Thy beloved Son, our manifold sins and shortcomings in the time that is past; and enable us henceforth more constantly to remember Thee, and with greater diligence and faithfulness to serve Thee.

Help us to enter on the labours of the week in the spirit of those devout exercises in which we were yesterday occupied in Thy house, and of those holy lessons which were addressed to us from Thy Word. Teach us to acknowledge Thee in all our ways, that Thou mayest direct our paths. Whether we be called to rule or to obey, to teach or to learn, to labour or to suffer, enable us in our several callings to abide with Thee. And whatsoever we do, dispose us to do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men.

Father of mercies, receive our humble thanks for all the benefits, temporal and spiritual, which from day to day Thou art graciously bestowing on us; and enable us

to show our gratitude, not only by the praises of our lips, but by the cheerful obedience of our hearts and lives.

[To Thy fatherly care we commend the children of this family. Preserve them from the dangers and temptations to which, in an evil world, they are exposed. Cause them to grow in grace, and in the knowledge of Jesus Christ, whom to know is life eternal.

We implore Thy blessing on the servants of this household, beseeching Thee to aid and encourage them in all their duties, and to make them faithful followers of Him who took upon Him the form of a servant, and went about doing good.]

Graciously hear our intercessions, O God, for all conditions and orders of our fellow-men; for the Queen and all in authority over us, that they may rule as Thy ministers to us for good; for the pastors of Thy flock, that they may be faithful and successful; for our friends and kindred, that it may please Thee to remember them for good, and to visit them with Thy salvation; for those who are in adversity and affliction, that they may be blessed with the comforts of Thy Word and Spirit; and for all men, that they may be brought to the knowledge, faith, and obedience of Thy Gospel.

These our humble supplications we present to Thee, O Thou that hearest prayer. Graciously answer them for the sake of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Saviour.—Amen.

Monday Evening.

LMIGHTY GOD, who art the confidence of all the ends of the earth, and of them that are afar off upon the sea-our Sun and Shield, our refuge and defence, the strength of our heart, and the Rock of our Salvation-enable us to put our trust in Thee. Teach us with full assurance to look up to Thee as our reconciled God and Father in Christ Jesus, who art willing, for His sake, to supply our utmost need. And graciously remember Thy Word unto Thy servants, on which Thou hast caused us to hope, that Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed upon Thee.

We confess, O God, that hitherto we have been prone to trust in the creature more than in the Creator. We have leant for support and succour on an arm of flesh. We have looked for guidance to the counsels of earthly wisdom. And instead of humbly acknowledging our dependence on Thee, we have often placed an unwarranted reliance on the might of our own efforts and the sufficiency of our own resources.

Pardon, O God, for the sake of Thy beloved Son, whatever want of confidence we have shown towards Thee; and lead us henceforth by the teaching of Thy Holy Spirit to trust in Thee with all our hearts. Help us to rely on the goodness of Thy providence. Increase our faith in the promises of Thy Word. Dispose us cheerfully to cast upon Thee all our cares, humbly to commit to Thy keeping all our interests, and earnestly to seek the aid of Thy strength and the guidance of Thy wisdom in all our undertakings. Above all, teach us wholly to depend on the merciful provisions of Thy

Gospel for the everlasting welfare of our souls. Counting all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus our Lord, may we seek to win Christ, and to be found in Him, not having our own righteousness which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, even the righteousness which is of God by faith. Convince us that without Him we can do nothing, but that through His strength we can do all things. And cause us to know Him whom we have believed, so as to be persuaded that he is able to keep unto the great day that which we have committed to Him; and that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

And now, O God, we commend ourselves to Thy care. We will lay ourselves down in peace, and sleep, because Thou only makest us to dwell in safety. Take us, and all who are near and dear to us, now and evermore, under Thy protection. Extend Thy special help and pity to those who are in circumstances of distress. Reveal Thy marvellous light to such as are in darkness. Increase everywhere the number of Thy faithful people; and let all those that trust in Thee rejoice, because with favour Thou wilt compass them as with a shield.

Graciously hear the voice of our supplications, which we offer in the name of Thy well-beloved Son, our Lord and Saviour.-Amen.

Tuesday Morning.

GOD, who hast taught us to be careful for no

O thing, but in everything, by prayer and supplica

tion with thanksgiving, to make our requests known unto Thee; we cast ourselves this morning on Thy care, and humbly ask of Thee those things which are necessary as well for the body as the soul.

But we

Holy Father, we are not worthy to come into Thy sacred presence by reason of our manifold offences, much less to receive any favour at Thy hands. put our trust in the merits of Thy beloved Son, who gave Himself as a sacrifice for our sins; and for His sake we earnestly beseech Thee to take away all our iniquity and receive us graciously, and to supply all our need according to Thy glorious riches by Christ Jesus.

O God, who knowest that while we are in this life we have manifold bodily wants to be supplied, and hast graciously promised to them that seek first Thy kingdom and the righteousness thereof, that all other needful things shall be added to them; grant us such a competent portion of earthly blessings as Thy wisdom seeth to be suitable and expedient for us. We ask of Thee neither poverty nor riches, but food to eat and raiment to put on. Give to us skill and industry to provide for ourselves and for those of our own house who are dependent on us. Bless us in all the works of our hands, that we may have sufficient not to be chargeable, but rather to be helpful to others. And whatsoever in Thy providence Thou sendest, make us to be heartily content with Thy blessed will. Suffer us not in pros
