And he dreamed yet another dream, and told it his brethren, and faid, Behold, I have dreamed a dream more; and, behold, the fun, and the moon, and the eleven ftars, made obeifance to me. 10 And he told it to his father, and to his brethree: and his father rebuked him, and faid unto him, What is this dream that thou hat dreamed? Spired against him to lay him. 19 And they said one to another, Behold, this dreamer cometh. 20 Come now therefore, and let us lay him, and caft him into fome pit: and we will fay, Some evil beat hath devoured him: and we thall fee what will come of his dreams. 21 And Reuben heard it, and he delivered him out of their hands; and said, Let us not kill him. 22 And Reuben faid unto them, Shed no blood, hur cast him into this pit that is in the wilderness, and lay no hand upon him; that he might rid him out or their hands, to deliver him to his father again. 23¶And it came to pafs, when Joseph was come unto his brethren, that they ftripped Jofeph out of his coat, his coat of many colours, that was on him. 24 And they took him, and caft him into a pit: and the pit was empty, there was no water in it. 25 And they fat down to eat bread; and they lifted up their eyes, and looked, and, behold, a company of lihmeelites came from Gilead, with their camels bearing fpicery, and balm, and myrrh, going to carry it down to Egypt. 26 And fulah faid unto his brethren, What profit is if it we tlay our brother, and conceal his blood? 27 Come, and let us fell him to the Ithmeelites, and let not our hand be upon him: for he is our brother, and our fleth: and his bre thren were content. 28 Then there paffed by Midianites, mer chantmen; and they drew and litted up fo. feph out of the pit, and fold Jofeph to the Ihmeelites for twenty pieces of filver: and they brought Jofeph into Egypt. 29 And Reuben returned unto the pit; and, behold, Jofeph was not in the pit: and he rent his clothes. 30 And he returned unto his brethren, and faid, The child is not; and I, whither thail I go! 31 And they took Jofeph's coat, and killed a kid of the goats, and dipped the coat in the blood: 32 And they fent the coat of many colours, and they brought it to their lather; and faid, This have we found: know now whether it be thy fon's coat or no. 33 And he knew it, and faid, It is my fon's coat; an evil beart hath devoured him: Jofeph is without doubt rent in pieces. 34 And Jacob rent his clothes, and put fackcloth upon his loins, and mourned for his fon many days. 35 And all his fons, and all his daughters, rofe up to comfort him; but he remed to comforted: and he faid, For I will go be B down into the grave unto my fon mourning. And the faid, What wilt thou give me, that thou mayeft come in unto me? 17 And he faid, I will fend thee a kid from the dock. A ND Jofeph was brought down to Egypt: tain of the guard, an Egyptian, bought him of the hands of the Ithmaelites, which had brought him down thither. 2 And the LORD was with Jofeph, and he was a profperous man: and he was in the houfe of his mafter the Egyptian. 3 And his master faw that the LORD QUA with him, and that the LORD made all that he did to profper in his hand. 4 And Jofeph found grace in his fight, and he ferved him: and he made him overfeer over his houfe, and all that he had he put into his hand. 5 And it came to pass from the time that he had made him overfeer in his houfe, and over all that he had, that the LORD biefed the Egyptian's houfe for Jofeph's fake: and the blening of the LORD was upon all that he had in the houfe, and in the field. 6 And he left all that he had in Jofeph's hand; and be knew not aught he had, fave the bread which he did eat: and Jofeph was a goudly perfon, and well-favoured. Pharaoh's butler Chap. xl. 1 And it came to pals after thefe things, that his matter's wife caft her eyes upon Jo. feon; and the faid, Lie with me." 8 But he refused, and faid unto his mafter's wife, Behold, my matter wotteth not what is with me in the houfe, and he hath committed all that he hath to my hand: There is none greater in this houfe than I; neither hath he kept back any thing from me but thee, because thou art his wife: how then can I do this great wickedness, and fin againt God! 10 And it came to pafs, as the fpake to Jofeph day by day, that he hearkened not unto her, to lie by her, or to be with her. 11 And it came to país, about this time, that Jofeph went into the houfe to do his business; and there was none of the men of the house there within. 12 And the caught him by his garnient, faying, Lie with me: and he left his garment in her hand, and fled, and got him out. 13 And it came to pafs, when the faw that he had left his garment in her hand, and wis bed forth, 14 That the called unto the men of her house, and ipake unto them, faying, See, he, hath brought in an Hebrew unto us to mock us: he came in unto me to lie with me, and I cried with a loud voice. 15 And it came to pafs, when he heard that I lifted up my voice and cried, that he left his garment with me, and fled, and got him out. 16 And the laid up his garment by her until his lord came home. זי. CHAP. XL. The butler and baker of Pharaoh are impri- bis baker had on ded their lord the king of 2 And Pharaoh was wroth against two of his officers, against the chief of the butlers, and against the chief of the bakers. 3 And be put thein in ward in the house of the captain of the guard, into the prison, the place where Jofeph was bound, and baker imprisoned. 4 And the captain o. the guard charged Jofeph with them, and he ferved them; and they continued a season in ward. 5 And they dreamed a dream both of them, each man his dream in one night, each man according to the interpretation of his dream; the butler and the baker of the king of Egypt, which were bound in the prifon. 6 And Jofeph came in unto them in the morning, and looked upon them, and, be. hold, they were fad. 7 And he asked Pharaoh's officers that wer with him in the ward of his lord'shoufe, faying, Wherefore look ye jo fadly to-day? 8 And they faid unto him, We have dream. ed a dream, and there is no interpreter of it. And Jofeph faid unto them, Do not in. terpretations belong to God? Teil me them, I pray you. 9 And the chief butler told his dream to Jofeph, and faid to him, in my dream, be. hold, vine was before me; 10 And in the vine were three branches: and it was as though it budded, and her bloffoms hot forth; and the clutters thereof brought forth ripe grapes. If And Pharaoh's cup was in my hande and I took the grapes, and preffed them into Pharaon's cup, and I gave the cup intoPharaoh's hand. 12 And Jofeph faid unto him, This is the interpretation of it: The three branches are three days. 13 Yet within three days fhall Pharaoh lift up thine head, and reftore thee unto thy place: and thou that deliver Pharaole's cup into his hand, after the former manner when thou wait his butler. 14 But think on me when it shall be well with thee, and thew kindness, I pray thee, unto me; and make mention of me unto Pharaoh, and bring me out of this houfe: 15 For indeed I was ifolen away out of the land of the Hebrews; and here also have I done nothing that they should put me into the dungeon. 16 When the chief baker faw that the interpretation was good, he faid unto Jofeph, I alfo was in my dream, and, behold, I bad three, white baskets on my head. 17 And in the uppermoft basket there suas of all manner of bake-meats for Pharaoh and the birds did eat them out of the basket upon my head. 18 And Jofeph anfwered and fald, This is the interpretation thereof: The three baskets are three days. 19 Yet within three days fhall Pharaoh lift up thy head from off thee, and shall hang thee on a tree; and the birds fhall eat thy flesh from off thee. 20 And it came to pafs the third day, which was Pharaoh's birth-day, that he made a feat unto all his fervants: and he lifted up taker, among his fervants. the head of the chief butler, and of the chief 21 And he restored the chief butler unto his butlership again; and he gave the cupinto Pharaoh's hand: 22 But he hanged the chief baker, as Jofepha had interpreted to them. 23 Yet did not the chief butler rememba Jofeph, but forgat hint. BS Pharaoh's two dreams CHAP. XLI. GENESIS. 1 Pharaoh's two dreams: 25 Jofeph interpreteth them: 23 he giveth Pharaoh counsel. 38 Jofeph is advanced. AND it came to pass at the end of two full years, that Pharaoh dreamed; and behold, he flood by the river. 2 And behold, there came up out of the river feven well-favoured kine, and fat-fleshed: and they fed in a meadow. 3 And, behold, feven other kine came up after them out of the river, ill-favoured and lean-lethed; and flood by the other kine, upon the brink of the river. 4 And the ill-favoured and lean-fleshed kine did eat up the feven well-favoured and fat kine. So Pharaoh awoke. 5 And he flept, and dreamed the second time: and, behold, feven ears of corn came up upon one talk, rank and good. 6 And, beho'd, even thin ears, and blafted with the east wind, (prung up after them. 7 And the feven thin ears devoured the feven rank and full ears. And Pharaoh awoke, and, behold, it was a dream. 8 And it came to pafs in the morning, that his fpirit was troubled; and he fent and call ed for all the magicians of Egypt, and all the wife men thereof: and Pharach told them his dream; but there was none that could interpret them unto Pharaoh 9Then fpake the chief butler unto Pharaoh, saying, I do remember my faults this day. To Pharaoh was wroth with his fervants, and put me in the ward in the captain of the guard's houfe, hath me and the chief baker. 11 And we dreamed a dream in one night, 1 and he: we dreamed each man according to the interpretation of his dream. 12 And there was there with us a young man, an Hebrew, fervant to the captain of the guard; and we told him, and he interpreted to our dreams: to each man according to his dream he did interpret. 13 And it came to pafs, as he interpreted to us, fo it was: me he rettored unto mine office, and him he hanged. 14 Then Pharaoh fent and called Jofeph, and they brought him haftily out of the dunseon: and he haved bimfelf, and changed his F.iment, and came in unto Pharaoh. 15 And Pharaoh faid unto Jofeph, I have teamed a dream, and there is none that can interpret it: and I have heard fay of thee, that thou can't understand a dream to interpretit. 16 And Jofeph anfwered Pharaoh, faying, 7 is not in me: God thall give Pharaoh an enfwer of peace. 17 Ant Pharaoh faid unto Jofeph, In my ream, behold, 1 food upon the bank of the river. 18 And, behold, there came up out of the verleven kine, fat-fleshed, and well-favoured; and they fed in a meadow. 19 And, behold, feven other kine came up er them, poor and very ill-favoured, and tean-flethed, fuch as I never faw in all the land Egypt for badnefs. 20 And the lean and ill-favoured kine did eat up the firit feven fat kine. 21 And when they had eaten them up, it could not be known that they had eaten them; if they were still ill-favoured, as at the ing. So I awoke, Interpreted by Fofiph. 22 And I faw in my dream, and, behold, fea ven ears came up in one stalk, full and good. 23 And, behold, feven ears, withered, thin, and blasted with the eaft wind, fprung up after them. 24 And the thin ears devoured the feven good ears. And I told this unto the magici. ans; but there was none that could declare if to me. 25 And Jofeph faid unto Pharaoh, The dream of Pharaoh is one: God hath shewed Pharaoh what he is about to do. 26 The feven good kine are feven years; and the feven good ears are feven years: the dream is one. 27 And the fevent and ill-favoured kine that came up after in, are feven years; and the feven empty ears blafted with the eaft wind, fhall be feven years of famine. 28 This is the thing which I have spoken unto Pharaoh: What God is about to do he fheweth unto Pharaoh. 29 Behold, there come feven years of great plenty throughout all the land of Egypt. 30 And there fhall arife after them feven years of famine; and all the plenty thall be forgotten in the land of Egypt: and the famine fhall confume the land. 31 And the plenty thall not be known in the land, by reafon of that famine following; for it all be very grievous. 32 And for that the dream was doubled unto Pharaoh twice: it is because the thing is estab lithed by God, and God will shortly bring it to pafs." 33 Now therefore, let Pharaoh look out a man difcreet and wife, and fet him over the land of Egypt. 34 Let Pharaoh do this, and let him appoint officers over the land, and take up the fifth part of the land of Egypt in the feven plenteous years. 35 And let them gather all the food of thofe good years that come, and lay up corn under the hand of Pharaoh, and let them keep food in the cities. 36 And that food fhall be for ftore to the land, against the feven years of famine which fhall be in the land of Egypt; that the land perith not through the famine. 37 And the thing was good in the eyes of Pharaoh, and in the eyes of all his fervants, 38 And Pharaoh faid unto his fervants, Can we find fuch a one as this is, a man in whom the Spirit of God is? 39 And Pharaoh faid unto Jofeph, Forafmuch as God hath thewed thee all this, there is nout fo difcreet and wife as thou art: 40 Thoufhalt be over my houfe, and accord ing unto thy word thall all my people be ruled: only in the throne will I be greater than thou." 41 And Pharaoh faid unto Jofeph, See, I have fet thee over all the land of Egypt. 42 And Pharaoh took off his ring from his hand, and put it upon Jofeph's hand, and ar rayed him in veftures of fine linen, and put a gold chain about his neck. 43 And he made him to ride in the fecond chariot which he had; and they cried before him, Bow the knee: and he made him ruler over all the land of Egypt. 44 And Pharaoh faid unto Jofeph, I am Pharaoh, aad without thee thaÏl no man liit |
