ON GOING TO A FUNERAL.

O Thou who art the Resurrection and the Life, be near to us in this time of sore trouble. Our home is the abode of death, and we go forth to day to bury our dead out of our sight. Grant us strength and consolation equal to this season of woe. May we not sorrow as those who have no hope, but look through the darkness of the tomb to the dawning light of the resurrection morn. As we leave the precious dust in the open sepulchre, and weep, as Jesus wept at the grave of Lazarus, enable us to control the workings of immoderate grief, by the thought, that soon the mourners will go about the streets for us; and support our fainting spirits with the hope of meeting our departed one, where the days of our mourning shall be ended.

AFTER A FUNERAL.

Sanctify to us the solemn scenes in which we have been engaged. The dust has returned to the earth as it was. Our friend sleepeth. The spirit has returned to God who gave it. In our desolation be a present help. Do not leave us comfortless. May we hear thee say, Let the fatherless put their trust in me. I will preserve thy widows alive. Endear to us the heavenly world into which thou art gathering all that is regenerate and holy from among men. As the

time of our continuance on earth is short, may we who weep be as though we wept not. Help us to give all diligence to make our calling and election sure; and to be followers of them who through faith and patience now inherit the promises. Prepare each of us for death, and when absent from the body may we be present with that Saviour, whom having not seen, we love.

THE END.
