LETTER I.

MY DEAR FRIEND,

It is with much regret I learn that you are troubled with doubts upon the subject of the atonement of Christ, and other points of the Socinian controversy. Yet let me not be supposed to intimate, that I esteem such matters improper subjects for investigation; or that I imagine their truth will be rendered at all questionable by the most severe and rigid inquiry. I am so far from this, that I should sincerely rejoice (were it practicable) for every believer in the New Testament to make himself fully acquainted with the points at issue between us and the Unitarians: nor can I for a moment doubt, that an unprejudiced survey
