subject of nursery hints in an extended and separate form.

There are, indeed, many excellent works already published on the subject; but as by the suggestions and contributions of many, every plan is likely to be perfected, no one is justified in withholding any thing likely to promote the desired object.

PRACTICAL LESSONS FOR INFANT

SCHOOLS.

(ORIGINAL AND SELECT.)

HYMNS.

THE GOODNESS OF GOD.

THE God who reigns above the sky
Sees all that children do;
We cannot from his presence fly;
And he can hear us too.

'Tis God who ev'ry blessing sends
That little children need,

And finds for them so many friends
Who teach them how to read:

They teach us likewise how to pray,
And sing his praises thus ;
Then let us do so, that he may

Bless both those friends and us.

THE SAME SUBJECT.

When first the morning light we see,
And from our beds arise;

We to our God should thankful be,
Who ev'ry want supplies.

'Twas God who made the pretty sun, That gives all day its light;

And it was God who made the moon,
And stars which shine at night.

The fish that in the water swim,
The beasts upon the land;
Were all created first by him,
And shew his mighty hand.

The food we eat, the clothes we wear,
'Tis God alone can give;
And only by his love and care,
Can little children live.

Then let us ever caution take,
His holy laws to keep;

And praise him from the time we wake
Until again we sleep.

OBEDIENCE TO TEACHERS.

Little children must obey,
Every thing their teachers say;
God is watching all day long,
Whether they do right or wrong.

And wherever they may be,
Every action he can see;

At home, at school, by day, by night,
Children still are in his sight.

When children do not as they're bid,
And for their naughty ways are chid,
He from the heavens is looking down,
And sees their conduct with a frown.

But when good children strive to please
Their teachers, God their goodness sees;
He marks their actions, and the while,
Is looking on them with a smile.
