PSALM.

My God, my God, why hast Thou forsaken me ? why art Thou so far from helping me, and from the words of my roaring? O my God, I cry in the daytime, but Thou hearest not; and in the night season, and am not silent. But Thou art holy, O Thou that inhabitest the praises of Israel. Be not far from me; for trouble is near; for there is none to help. But be not Thou far from me, O Lord: O my strength, haste Thee to help me. xxii. 1, 2, 3, 11, 19.

He was despised, and we esteemed Him not.

And Jesus saith unto him, The foxes have Matt. viii. holes, and the birds of the air have nests; but the Son of man hath not where to lay His head.

Jesus therefore, being wearied with His John iv. 6. journey, sat thus on the well: and it was about the sixth hour.

Now in the morning as He returned into Matt, xxi. the city, He hungered.

And on the morrow, when they were come from Bethany, He was hungry:

The world cannot hate you; but Me it John vii. 7. hateth, because I testify of it, that the works thereof are evil.

If the world hate you, ye know that it hated Me before it hated you.

And therefore did the Jews persecute Jesus, and sought to slay Him, because He had done these things on the sabbath day.

Then took they up stones to cast at Him: but Jesus hid Himself, and went out of the temple, going through the midst of them, and so passed by.

Now is My soul troubled; and what shall John xii. I say? Father, save Me from this hour: but for this cause came I unto this hour.

My soul is exceeding sorrowful unto death: Mark xiv. tarry ye here, and watch.

But I have a baptism to be baptized with; and how am I straitened till it be accomplished. And being in an agony He prayed more earnestly and His sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling down to the ground.

When the chief priests therefore and John xix. officers saw Him, they cried out, saying, Crucify Him, crucify Him. Pilate saith unto them, Take ye Him, and crucify Him: for I find no fault in Him.

Then delivered he Him therefore unto John xix. them to be crucified. And they took Jesus, and led Him away.

And He bearing His cross went forth into
a place called the place of a skull, which is
called in the Hebrew Golgotha: Where they
crucified Him, and two other with Him, on
either side one, and Jesus in the midst.

And Jesus cried, saying, My God, My
God, why hast Thou forsaken Me.

After this, Jesus knowing that all things
were now accomplished, that the scripture
might be fulfilled, saith, I thirst.

When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, He said, It is finished: and He bowed His head, and gave up the ghost.

And again another scripture saith, They shall look on Him whom they pierced.

For it became Him, for whom are all things, Heb. ii. 10 and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons unto glory, to make the Captain of their salvation perfect through suffering.

For consider Him that endured such contradiction of sinners against Himself, lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds.

For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow His steps:
