God, who didft grant thy fervant John, being

O inflamed with the fire of thy love, to walk

without hurt thro' the midst of flames, and by him didst institute a new order in thy Church; grant, by his merits, that the fire of thy charity may cure our diseased fouls, and obtain for us eternal remedies. Thro'.

GOSPEL. Matt. xxii. 35.

AT that time: The Pharifees came to Jefus: And

one of them, a doctor of the law, put a question to him, tempting him: Mafter, which is the great commandment of the law? Jefus faid to him: Thou fhalt love the Lord thy God with thy whole heart, and with thy whole foul, and with thy whole mind. This is the greatest and firft commandment. And the fecond is like to this: Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyfelf. On thefe two commandments depend the whole law and the prophets. And the Pharifees being gathered together, Jefus afked them, faying: What think you of the Chrift? Whofe fon is he? They fay to him: David's. He faith to them: How then doth David in fpirit call him Lord, faying: The Lord faid unto my Lord: Sit thou on my

right hand, untill I make thy enemies a footftool for thy feet. If David then call him Lord: how is he his fon? And no one was able to answer him a word: nor durft any one from that day put any more queftions to him.

St. JOSEPH, Confeffor. A Double of the second Rank.

I. VESPERS.

The PSALMS as on Sundays, p. xli. except the laft, which is: Pf. 116. Laudate Dominum omnes. COMMON, p. lxviii. Anth. Acob begot foseph the hufband of Mary, of whom was born Jefus, who is called the Chrift.

Anth. The angel Gabriel was fent by God to a virgin espoused to a man of the house of David, whose name was Jofeph, and the name of the virgin was Mary. Anth. When Mary the mother of Jefus was efpoufed to Jofeph, before they had been together, fhe was found to be with child by the Holy Ghost.

Anth. Her husband Jofeph being a righteous

Ant. Acob autem ge nuit Jofeph virum Maria, de quâ natus eft Jefus, qui vocatur Chriftus.
