Sighing fall flee away: That is, at the Sight of the Glory of that Grace, that fhews itself to them now, in the Face of our Lord Jesus Christ, and in the Hopes that they now have, of being with him in the heavenly Tabernacles. Therefore it faith again, With Gladness and Rejoycing hall they be brought; they fhall enter into the King's Palace, Ifa. 35. 10. Ch. 51. 11. Pfal. 45. 15.

There is therefore heart-attracting Glory in the Lord Jefus Chrift; which, when discovered, fubjects the Heart to the Word, and makes us come to him.

'Tis faid of Abraham; That when he dwelt in Mefopotamia, the God of Glory appeared unto him, (Acts 7. 2.) faying, Get thee out of thy Country. And what then? Why, away he went from his Houfe and Friends, and all the World could not ftay him. Now, as the Pfalmift fays, Who is the King of Glory? He anfwers, The Lord, mighty in Battle: And who was that, but he that fpoiled Principalities and Powers, when he did hang upon the Tree, triumphing over them thereon? And who was that but Jefus Chrift, even the Perfon speaking in the Text? Therefore he faid of Abraham, He faw his Day. Yea, faith he to the Jews, your Father Abraham rejoiced to fee my Day, and he faw it and was glad, Pfal. 24. 8. Col. 2. 14, 15. Jam. 1. 1. John 8. 56.

Indeed, The carnal Man says (at laft) in his Heart, Ifa. 53. 1, 2, 3. There is no Form or Comeliness in Chrift, and when we fhall fee him, There is no Beauty that we should defire him; but he lies; This he fpeaks, as having never seen him. But they that ftand in his Houfe, and look upon him through the Glafs of his Word, by the Help of his holy Spirit, they will tell you other Things. But we, fay they, all with open Face, bebolding,

bebolding, as in a Glass, the Glory of the Lord, are changed into the fame Image, from Glory to Glory, 2 Cor. 3. 17, 18. They tee Glory in the Perfon, Glory in his Understanding, Glory in his Merit of his Blood, and Glory in the Perfection of his Righteoufnefs; yea, heart-affecting, heart-fweetning, and heart-changing Glory!

and cannot be Father (Matt. with Meanness

Indeed, his Glory is veiled, feep; but as difcovered by the 11. 27.) It is veiled with Flefh, of Defcent from the Flesh, and with that Ignominy and Shame that attended him in the Flesh; but they that can, in God's Light, fee through thefe Things, they fhall fee Glory in him; yea, fuch Glory as will draw and pull their Hearts unto him.

Mofes was the adopted Son of Pharoah's Daughter; and for ought I know, had been King at laft, had he conformed to the prefent Vanities that was there at Court, but he could not, he would not do it: Why? What was the Matter? Why? he faw more in the worst of Christ (bear with the Expreffion) than he faw in the best of all the Treasures of the Land of Egypt. He refused to be called the Son Pharoah's Daughter; chufing rather to fuffer Affliction with the People of God, than to enjoy the Pleafare of Sin for a Seafon: Efteeming the Reproach of Chrift, greater Riches than the Treafures in Egypt; for he had Respect to the Recompence of Reward. He forfook Egypt, not fearing the Wrath of the King: But what emboldned him thus to do? Why, he endured; for he had a Sight of the Perfon fpeaking in the Text: He endured as feeing him who is invifible. But I fay? Would a Sight of Jefus have thus taken away Mofes's Heart from a Crown, and a Kingdom, &c. had he not by that Sight feen more in

him

him, than was to be feen in them? Heb. 11. 24, 25, 26.

Therefore, when he faith, hall come to me, he means, they fhall have a Difcovery of the Glory of the Grace that is in him; and the Beauty and Glory of that is of fuch Virtue, that it contraineth, and forceth with a bleffed Violence, the Hearts of thofe that are given to him.

Mofes, of whom he spake before, was no Child when he was thus taken with the beauteous Glory of this Lord: He was forty Years old, and fo confequently was able, being a Man of that Wif dom and Opportunity as he was, to make the best Judgment of the Things, and of the Goodness of them that was before him in the Land of Egypt. But he, even he it was, that fet that low Elleem upon the Glory of Egypt, as to count it not worth the meddling with, when he had a Sight of this Lord Jefus Chrift. This wicked World thinks, that the Fancies of a Heaven and a Happiness hereafter, may ferve well enough to take the Heart of fuch, as either have not the World's good Things to delight in; or that are Fools, and know not how to delight themfelves therein: But let them know again, that we have had Men of all Ranks and Qualities, that have been taken with the Glory of our Lord Jefus, and have left all to follow him: As Abel, Seth, Enoch, Noah, Abraham, Ifaac, Jacob, Mofes, Samuel, David, Solomon: and who not, that had either Wit or Grace, to favour heavenly Things? Indeed none can stand off from him, nor any longer hold out against him, to whom he reveals the Glory of his Grace.

And him that cometh to me (I will in no wife caft out.)

By thefe Words our Lord Jefus doth fet forth (far more amply) the great Goodness of his Na

ture

stre towards the coming Sinner. Before he said, They shall come; and he declareth, That with Heart and Affections he will receive them. But by the Way, let me fpeak one Word or two, to the feeming Conditionality of this Promife, with which now I have to do. And him that cometh to me, I will in no wife caft out. Where it is evident, (may fome fay) that Chrift's receiving us to Mercy, depends upon our coming, and fo our Salvation by Chrift is conditional: If we come we fhall be received; if not, we shall not: For that is fully intimated by the Words. The Promife of Reception is only to him that cometh: And him that com.th. I anfwer, that the coming in their Words mentioned, as a Condition of being received to Life, is that which is promifed, yea, concluded to be effected in us by the Promife going before. In thofe latter Words, coming to Chrift, is implicitly required of us; and in the Words before, that Grace that can make us come is pofitively promifed to us. All that the Father giveth me, fhall come to me, and him that cometh to me, Iwill in no wise cast out thence. We come to Chrift, because it is faid, We fhail come; becaufe it is given to us to come: So that the Condition, which is expreffed by Chrift in thefe latter Words, is abfolutely promifed in the Words before. And indeed, the coming here intended, is nothing else but the Effect of shall come to me. They shall come, and I will not caft

them out.

(And him that cometh.)

He faith not, and him that is come, but him that cometh.

To speak these Wards..

In general.

2 More particularly.

In

In general; They fuggeft unto us thefe four Things;

First, That Jefus Chrift doth build upon it; that fince the Father gave his People to him, they fhall be enabled to come unto him. Ani him that cometh: As who fhould fay, I know that fince they are given to me, they should be enabled to come unto me. He faith not, If they come, or I fuppofe they will come; but, and him that cometh. By thefe Words therefore he fhews us, that he addresseth himself to the receiving of them whom the Father gave to him, to fave them: I fay, he addreffeth himself, or prepareth himself to receive them: By which, as I faid, he concludeth or buildeth upon it, that they should indeed come to him. He looketh that the Father fhould bring them into his Bofom, and fo ftands ready to en brace them.

Secondly, Chrift alfo fuggefteth by thefe Words, that he very well knoweth who are given to him: Not by their coming to him, but by their being given to him. All that the Father giveth me, fhall come to me: And him that cometh, &c. This bim he knoweth to be one of them that the Father hath given him; and therefore he receiveth him, even because the Father hath given him to him, John 10. I know my Sheep, faith he. Not only thofe that already have Knowledge of him, but thofe too, that yet are ignorant of him. Other Sheep have I, faid he, which are not of this Fold: Not of the Jewish Church; but thofe that lie in their Sins, even the rude and barbarous Gentiles. Therefore, when Paul was afraid to ftay at Corinth, from a Suppofition, that fome Mischief might befal him there: Be not afraid, (faid the Lord Jefus to him) but speak, and hold not thy Peace, for I have much People in this City,
