Laura Shaw is a single, pregnant, nineteen-year-old college student in the South in 1969. Under the influence of her image-obsessed mother she makes a decision that will shape the course of not only her own, but many other lives. Thea Tait is the young daughter of a physician willing to risk everything, including his family, for what he believes. When faced with a devastating loss, Thea begins her struggle with her fatheras profession, her motheras choices, and the path her own life takes. Set against the backdrop of the Vietnam War, Roe vs. Wade, and civil unrest, the lives of these two women spiral dangerously close to one another.
