From the Burial Service.

(1.) ST. JOHN. xi. 25, 26. I am the Resurrection and the Life, saith the LORD: he that believeth in Me, though he were dead, yet shall he live; and whosoever liveth and believeth in Me shall never die.

(2.) JOB xix. 25-27. I know that my Redeemer liveth, and that He shall stand at the latter day upon the earth. And though after my skin worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh shall I see GOD: Whom I shall see for myself, and mine eyes shall behold, and not another.

(3.) JOB i. 21. We brought nothing into this world, it is certain we can carry nothing out.

(4.) I TIMOTHY vi. 7. The LORD gave, and the LORD hath taken away; blessed be the Name of the LORD.

(5.) JOB xiv. 1, 2. Man that is born of a woman hath but a short time to live, and is full of misery. He cometh up, and is cut down, like a flower; he fleeth as it were a shadow, and never continueth in one stay.

(6.) In the midst of life we are in death: of whom may we seek for succour, but of Thee, O Lord, Who for our sins art justly displeased? Yet, O LORD GOD most Holy, O LORD most Mighty, O Holy and most Merciful SAVIOUR, deliver us not into the bitter pains of eternal death. Amen.

(7.) Thou knowest, LORD, the secrets of our hearts; shut not Thy merciful ears to our prayer; but spare us, LORD most Holy, O GOD most Mighty, O Holy and Merciful SAVIOUR, Thou most worthy Judge Eternal, suffer us not, at our last hour, for any pains of death, to fall from Thee.

(8.) REVELATION xiv. 13. I heard a voice from heaven, saying unto me, Write, From henceforth blessed are the dead which die in the LORD: even so saith the Spirit; for they rest from their labours. Amen.

*[11. All kings shall fall down before Him: all nations shall do Him service.]

PSALM CXXXIX. 1. O LORD, Thou hast searched me out, and known me: Thou knowest my down-sitting and mine up-rising; Thou understandest my thoughts long before.

2. Thou art about my path, and about my bed, and spiest out all my ways.

3. For lo, there is not a word in my tongue, but Thou, O LORD, knowest it altogether.

[4. Thou hast fashioned me behind and before, and laid Thine hand upon me.

5. Such knowledge is too wonderful and excellent for me: I cannot attain unto it.]

6. Whither shall I go then from Thy Spirit; or whither shall I go then from Thy presence?

7. If I climb up into heaven, Thou art there: If I go down to hell, Thou art there also.

8. If I take the wings of the morning, and remain in the uttermost parts of the sea;

9. Even there also shall Thy hand lead me, and Thy right hand shall hold me.

[10. If I say, Peradventure the darkness shall cover me: then shall my night be turned to day.
