ISAIAH i. 2. Hear, O heavens, and give ear, O earth, for the LORD hath spoken: I have nourished and brought up children, and they have rebelled against Me.

4. Ah, sinful nation, a seed of evildoers, children that are corrupters. They have forsaken the LORD, they have provoked the Holy One of Israel unto anger.

16. Wash ye, make you clean; put away the evil of your doings from before Mine eyes; cease to do evil;

17. Learn to do well; seek judgment, relieve the oppressed, judge the fatherless, plead for the widow.

18. Come now, let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.

PSALM xlii.

HUMPHREYS.

1. Like as the hart desireth the waterbrooks, so longeth my soul after Thee, O God.

2. My soul is athirst for GOD, yea, even for the living GOD: Ŏ when shall I come to appear before the presence of GOD?

3. My tears have been my meat day and night, while they daily say unto me, Where is now thy GOD?

4. Now when I think thereupon, I pour out my heart by myself; for I went with the multitude, and brought them forth into the house of GOD;

5. In the voice of praise and thanksgiving, among such as keep holy day.

6. Why art thou so full of heaviness, O my soul? and why art thou so disquieted within me?

7. O put thy trust in GOD, for I will yet give Him thanks for the help of His countenance.

[14. Why art thou so vexed, O my soul? and why art thou so disquieted within me?

15. O put thy trust in GOD, for I will yet thank Him, Which is the help of my countenance, and my GOD.] HUMPHREYS.

93 OUSELEY, vv. 1-3, 14, 15. Amen.

PSALM Xxii. I. O LORD, My GOD, why hast Thou forsaken Me; and art so far from My health, and from the words of My complaint?

14. I am poured out like water, all My bones are out of joint: My heart also in the midst of My Body is even like melting wax.

19. But be not Thou far from Me, O LORD: Thou art My succour; haste Thee to help Me.

16. For many dogs are come about Me, and the counsel of the wicked layeth siege against Me.

17. They pierced My hands and My feet, I may tell all My bones they stand staring and looking upon Me.

18. They part My garments among them, and cast lots upon My vesture.

HUMPHREYS.

PSALM 1xx. 1. Haste Thee, O GOD, to deliver me; make haste to help me, O LORD.

2. Let them be ashamed and confounded that seek after my soul; let them be turned backward, and put to confusion, that wish me evil.

3. Let them for their reward be soon brought to shame, that cry over me, There, there.

4. But let all those that seek Thee be joyful and glad in Thee; and let all such as delight in Thy salvation say alway, The LORD be praised.

5. As for me, I am poor and in misery; [haste Thee unto me, O GOD.]

I. Haste Thee, O GOD, to deliver me; make haste to help me, O LORD.

6. Thou art my helper and my Redeemer: O LORD, make no long tarrying.

PSALM xliv. 5. Thou art my King, O GOD, send help unto Jacob.

6. Through Thee will we overthrow our enemies, and in Thy Name will we tread them under that rise up against us.

7. For I will not trust in my bow, it is not my sword that shall help me.

8. But it is Thou that savest us from our enemies, and puttest them to confusion that hate us.

5. Thou art my King, O GOD, send help unto Jacob. 9. We make our boast of GOD all day long, and will praise Thy Name for ever.

CHILD, HUMPHREYS.

PSALM XXXIX. 5. LORD, let me know mine end, and the number of my days, that I may be certified how long I have to live.

6. Behold, Thou hast made my days as it were a span long, and mine age is even as nothing in respect of Thee; and verily every man living is altogether vanity.

7. [For man walketh in a vain shadow, and disquieteth himself in vain ;] he heapeth up riches, and cannot tell who shall gather them.

8. And now, LORD, what is my hope? truly my hope is even in Thee.

12. When Thou with rebukes dost chasten man for sin, Thou makest his beauty to consume away, like as it were a moth fretting a garment: every man therefore is but vanity.

13. Hear my prayer, O LORD, and with Thine ears consider my calling; hold not Thy peace at my tears.

14. For I am a stranger with Thee, and a sojourner, as all my fathers were.

15. O spare me a little, that I may recover my strength, before I go hence, and be no more seen.

PSALM CXXII. I. I was glad when they said unto me, We will go into the house of the LORD.

2. Our feet shall stand in thy gates, O Jerusalem.

3. Jerusalem is built as a city, that is at unity in itself. 4. For thither the tribes go up, even the tribes of the LORD, to testify unto Israel, to give thanks unto the Name of the LORD.

[5. For there is the seat of judgment, even the seat of the house of David.]

+6. O pray for the peace of Jerusalem: they shall prosper that love thee.

7. Peace be within thy walls, and plenteousness within thy palaces.

8. For my brethren and companions' sakes I will wish thee prosperity.

9. Yea, because of the house of the LORD our GOD, I will seek to do thee good.

PSALM CXliv. 9. I will sing a new song unto Thee, O GOD, and sing praises unto Thee upon a ten-stringed lute.

10. Thou hast given victory unto kings, and hast delivered David Thy servant from the peril of the sword.

11. Save me, and deliver me from the hand of strange children, whose mouth talketh of vanity, and their right hand is a right hand of iniquity.

12. That our sons may grow up as the young plants, and that our daughters may be as the polished corners of the temple.

13. That our garners may be full and plenteous with all manner of store, that our sheep may bring forth thousands and ten thousands in our streets.

[14. That our oxen may be strong to labour, that there be no decay; no leading into captivity, and no complaining in our streets.]

15. Happy are the people that are in such a case: yea, blessed are the people who have the LORD for their GOD. WISE.

LAMENTATIONS i. 4. The ways of Zion do mourn, because none come to the solemn feasts; all her gates are desolate; her priests sigh, her virgins are afflicted, and she is in bitterness.

16. For these things I weep; mine eye runneth down with water.

5. Her adversaries are the chief, her enemies prosper : for the LORD hath afflicted her.

16. For these things I weep; mine eye runneth down with water.

5. For the multitude of her transgressions, the LORD hath afflicted her.

II. See, O LORD, and consider, for I am become vile,
