Abide with me, fast falls the eventide,
The darkness deepens ; LORD, with me abide.
When other helpers fail, and comforts flee,
Help of the helpless, then abide with me.

I need Thy presence every passing hour;
What but Thy grace can foil the tempter's power ?
Who, like Thyself, my guide and stay can be ?
Through cloud and sunshine, LORD, abide with me.

I fear no foe, with Thee at hand to bless;
Ills have no weight, and tears no bitterness;
Where is Death's sting? Where, Grave, thy victory?
I triumph still, if Thou abide with me.

(From "The Woman of Samaria,” No. 17.)

COLLECT For the First Sunday in Advent. Almighty God, give us grace that we may cast away the works of darkness, and put upon us the armour of light, now in the time of this mortal life, in which Thy Son Jesus Christ came to visit us in great humility; that in the last day, when He shall come again in His glorious Majesty to judge both the quick and dead, we may rise to the life immortal, through Him Who liveth and reigneth with Thee and the Holy Ghost, now and ever. Amen.

S. S. Wesley. 887

COLLECT For the Second Sunday in Advent. Blessed LORD, Who hast caused all Holy Scriptures to be written for our learning; Grant that we may in such wise hear them, read, mark, learn, and inwardly digest them, that, by patience, and comfort of Thy holy Word, we may embrace, and ever hold fast the blessed hope of everlasting life, which Thou hast given us in our Saviour JESUS CHRIST. Amen.

S. S. Wesley.

PSALM xcvi. 7. Ascribe unto the LORD, O ye kindreds of the people, ascribe unto the LORD worship and power.

8. Ascribe unto the LORD the honour due unto His Name.

9. Let the whole earth stand in awe of Him.

10. Tell it out among the heathen that the LORD is King, and that He shall judge the people righteously.

9. O worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness.

2, 3. Sing to the LORD, and praise His Name; be telling of His salvation from day to day, His wonders unto all people. 5. As for the gods of the heathen, they are but idols.

4. Their idols are silver and gold, even the work of men's hands.

5. They have mouths and speak not; eyes have they, and see not.

6. They have ears, and hear not : noses have they, and smell not.

7. They have hands, and handle not: feet have they, and walk not: neither speak they through their throat.

8. They that make them are like unto them, and so are all such as put their trust in them.

3. As for our God, He is in Heaven; He hath done whatsoever pleased Him.

*12. The Lord hath been mindful of us, and He shall bless us : He shall bless the house of Israel, He shall bless the house of Aaron.

13. He shall bless them that fear the LORD, both small

and great.

14. Ye are the blessed of the LORD, you and your children,

15. Ye are the blessed of the LORD, Who made heaven and earth.*

S. S. Wesley.

Sometimes sung as a separate Anthem.
