PREFACE.

Several years have elapsed since the Sermons of this volume were preached, before a Christian Society abroad, in order to counteract the influence of some demoralizing freethinkers, who had disseminated their false and mischievous opinions amongst the younger members, with practical and fatal effect. By the express desire of the congregation, a few copies were printed, but without the author's name, in consequence of some diffidence on his part as to the soundness of the opinions he had advanced, and the extent of the views he had entertained.
