PREFACE. THESE Sermons were preached to a small Sunday-evening congregation in the Church of All Saints', Knightsbridge. The writer's object was to present in them the chief doctrines of the CHRISTIAN FAITH in a form so far popular as is compatible with accuracy of theological statement. They are now published with the same view; not, it need hardly be said, as arguments against those who are not disposed to believe, but as an elementary instruction for those who believe already; as a statement of the truths which the Church has held and taught from the beginning, rather than a defence of those truths. W. G. T. Lent, 1853. CONTENTS. In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with GOD, and the Word was GOD. And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us. |
