Dieser Vortheil gehört nun durch die gegenwärtige Erfindung nicht mehr ausschliessend den Schrifte stellern. Der Abdruck wird hier von einer völlig ebenen Oberfläche genommen, da man hingegen bey Holzschnitz ten, Lettern 2c. die Oberfläche erhaben machen muß, damit die Schwärze blos an den erhabnern Theilen han gen bleibe, so wie man beym Graviren, Aeßen zc. aus derselben Absicht Vertiefungen macht. Nicht zu erwähnen, daß die verschiederen andern Methoden, eine Kupferplatte zuzubereiten, viel Fleiß und besondres Stu dium erfordern, so gestatten sie bey weitem nicht dies selbe Leichtigkeit und Freyheit, womit man eine Feder oder Kreide handhaben kann, und legen daher Fesseln auf, welche denen, die sich in irgend einem Fache der Kupferstecherkunst zur Vortrefflichkeit_emporgeschwuns gen haben, am besten bekannt sind. Der Abdruck von einer ebenen Oberfläche hat auch den Vorzug, daß man viel mehr Abdrücke erhalten kann, als von einer Kuz pferplatte, die sich allmählig abnußt, ja man hat aus der bereits gemachten Erfahrung Grund zu schliessen, daß man viele tausend Abdrücke machen kann, ohne dem Steine zu schaden; und da dieser letztere von einer hinlänglich dauerhaften Substanz ist, so kann man ihn mit ganz gewöhnlicher Sorgfalt Jahrhunderte lang aufbewahren, so daß sich, nach dem Ablauf einer unermeß'lichen Zeit, neue Abdrücke machen lassen. Das oben angezeigte Probewerk wird sechs Nummern ausmachen: jede enthält sechs Blåtter und kostet eine halbe Guinee. Man wendet sich entweder an den Patentinhaber P. Andre', No. 5. Buckinghamstreet, Fitzroviquare - oder an jeden Kupferstichhändler. In dieser Sammlung findet man Zeichnungen von folgenden größtentheils berühm ten Meistern: West, Barker, Barry, Beechy, Boyne, Mather Brown, R. Cooper, Corbould, Cosway, de la Motte, Downman, Eckstein, Farrington, Flare man, Fuseli, Geßner, Heath, Hearne, Hoppner, Las porte, Opie, D. Orme, W. Orme, Ker Porter, Pye ne, Samuel, T. Stothard, Etubbs, Tresham, Westall, 2c. Unter andern findet man hier auch einige treffliche Zeichnungen des sehr geschickten und liebenswürdigen Wiener Künstlers Fischer, welcher während

Dieses Sommers in London war. Da diese herrliche Er findung noch nicht recht in den Gang gekommen ist, so muß man sich freuen, daß unser geschickter Landsmann R. Ackermann im Strande große Luft hat, das Patent an sich zu kaufen. Sein Unternehmungsgeist und sein ausgebreiteter Handel würden der Polyautographie in kurzem die verdiente Celebritåt verschaffen.

Wir haben hier viele Panoramen gehabt, aber nach dem Urtheile der Kenner übertrift Reinagle's und Barker's neues Panorama von Rom, welches neben der neuen Kirche im Strande ausgestellt ist, alle bisheri gen. Es ist von der Villa Ludovici herab aufgenom men. Das Gebäude, worin es steht, wurde ausdrücklich vom jungen Barker (dessen Vater der Erfinder dieser Art von Gemåhlde war) erbaut. Diesem wird ein zweytes Panorama von Rom, vom Thurme des Capitoliums aufgenommen, folgen, welches die wohlbekann= ten Antiquitäten des Forum (jeßt Campo Vaccino) den größten Theil der alten Mauern und Wasserleitungen und jeden andern Gegenstand, der in einer Ansicht von dieser berühmten Stadt interessiren kann, enthalten wird.

Auch ist eine Reihe von Kupfern, vorstellend die vier großen Seesiege der Engländer im letzten Kriege, erschienen. Sie sind von dem berühmten Smirke gezeichnet. Unter jedem Blatte befinden sich die Portraits der Sechelden, die in diesem Treffen commandirten. No. 1. ist: Lord Howe's Sieg am 4. Juny 1794. Bris tannia siht auf einem Felsen und wird von der englischen Eiche überschattet. Die Fama überreicht ihr einen Lors beerkranz. Gestochen von F. Bartolozzi. Die unten befindlichen Portraits sind von Stow. No. 2. Lord St. Vincent's Sieg den 14. Febr. 1797. Eine Victoria auf einem Piedestal, von welchem die Medaillons des Lords und seiner Unter- Admirale herabhangen. No. 3. Lord Duncan's Sieg den 11. Octobr. 1797. Britannia in einem Triumphwagen von Seepferden, Tritonen und Najaden gezogen. No. 4. der Sieg am Nil. Der Gott dieses Flusses sitzt am Füsse eines hohen Palmbaums, an welchen Fama den Medaillon des Lord Nelson lehnt, den der Flußgott mit Hochachtung betrachtet. An cie ner Seite ist ein Sphynr, in der Ferne die Pyramiden, und an der andern Seite ein Seegefecht: gestochen von Bromley. Man hält diese Blätter für meisterhaft.
