As several of the conjunctions have much the appearance of expletives, the reader can confult the note below, obferving however, that the natives may feel the force of fuch words, though it escape us.

XXVI.

Haris was the name of these infants' affaffin, whom he was the whole day hunting and fearching after, but being jaded to death, when he arrived and fat down at home, he became hungry, fnappish and snarling, like a cur, addreffing his wife thus; Fetch me some victuals directly. To this the replied, Well why fuch hurry favage? What is that to you, faid he? a vengeance has feized me, and I fhall get into difgrace with Zee,ad's fon. Then, continued the, let me alfo hear what is the matter? He anfwered, Why I have got an office fince yesterday, and I must find out the fons of Moollim, that I may cut off their heads and get into favour at court.

This particle is of frequent occurrence; but like the ki, is often ufed apparently to us as a mere expletive.

SECTION III.

OF POSTPOSITIONS AND INTERJECTIONS.

THOUGH all writers have with propriety agreed to call the Prepositions as above in this language, from their general pofition after their respective nouns, it must not be understood that fome never precede them, and these will in general prove to be the adverbial Poftpofitions which so often require the inflected particle ke, as exhibited under the General Declenfion of Nouns; where in a Table I have given fo complete a list of the whole between pages 58 and 59 as to render any repetition in this place quite unneceffary. Those that belong more properly to the Perfian than Hindoostanee, are true prepofitions, but rarely occur(v):—

Saf to kuh ki mee,an toom to hoo,e uhli nisab
Ek bofu to humeň hoofn kee do upne zukat.

SHUHEED.

صاف تو کرده که میان تم تو ہوئی اهل نصاب هوئي د و اپنی زکات ایک بوسه تو همین حسن کی بوسہ

Say plainly, why my dear you are fubject to the furplus tax; then do give me one kiss as the tribute of your beauty. In the Qoran it is repeatedly enjoined to all true Moofulmans the most rigid obfervance of this furplus tax, at the rate of two and a half per cent. on the actual saving of every year, which is to be dedicated folely to the meritorious poor.

(v) bu, ba, with, by, &c. uz, from, &c. dur, in, within, &c. bur, on, &c.

We are the fons of Mŏŏflim, who has just been flain, and befides God we have none else to affift us. Providence hath fhewn us your house; thou haft received us with blows, and she hath given us food.
