Near this place

Lieth Margaret Patten, who died in the Work houfe of this Parish June 26, 1739, aged 136 years.

It has been faid, this remarkable aged woman, was noted for making Scotch broth, and was fent for to England, purpofely, to prepare that favourite beverage, for king James II. but how far the fucceeded in pleafing the palate of her royal mafter, is not known; however, the general change of affairs taking place at this time, and the king not being remarkable for his munificence, it is not very extraordinary, that poor Margaret Patten was unprovided for.

Janet Anderfon, aged 102, of Newington, Middlesex. Her life was regular and moderate; the was remarkably active, and able to perform her work, fpinning, though at fuch great age, to near the time of her death Her faculties were very strong to the laft.

Mrs. Carter, of Waltham-abbey, Effex; could walk five or fix miles a day with eafe, till within a few months of her death, aged 101.

Edglebert Hoff, aged 128, of Fish-hill, near New York. He was born in Norway, and could remember that he was a lad driving a team, when the news was brought to that country, that king Charles I. was beheaded. He ferved as a fold er under the prince of Orange, in the time of king James II.

E. Anderson, of Shield Dykes, near Alnwick, aged 107. Mr. Glover, of Tarbuck, Lancashire, aged 104. William Whitehurst, aged 107, of Indian-creek, in Vitginia. He served in the militia in every reign from king Charles II. to the acceffion of king George III, Jurgen Neilson, of Zealand, aged 119.

J. Reverty, of Armagh, in Ireland, aged 110 years. Mr. Mellener, of Ipswich, butcher, aged 101. William Cribbridge, of South-Wraxall, aged 100. Mofes Gonzara, of Amfterdam, a popish priest; fold toys in that city, aged 114.

James Mackay, aged 120, near Cardigan. He feldom was ill, and retained his fenfes to the day of his death.

Dorothy Froft, of Fallow-field lead-mines, near Hexham, Northumberland, aged 105.

John Powell, aged 105, near Raynham, Norfolk. He was a ploughman, and followed that employ 88 years.

Col. Thomas Wflow, Efq. aged 146, of the county of Tipperary, in Ireland. He held the rank of a captain in the reign of king Charles I. and accompanied Oliver Cromwell into Ireland.

Mr. Debfon, aged 139, of Hatfield, farmer. By much exercife and temperate living he preferved the inestimable bleffing of health. Ninety-one children and grand-children attended his funeral.
