Excerpt from A d104book of Civics for the State of Washington

This book has been written in answer to a popular demand for a textbook that will give the important facts in the govern ment of the state Of Washington and also of the United States. Government is becoming more and more complex as the years go by, and therefore it is of the greatest importance that definite instruction be given in civics in all our schools. It does not follow that a knowledge of the facts of civics will in itself make good citizens. It is the opinion of the author, however, that the boys and girls of our land should be taught the fundamental principles upon which the government of both the state and the nation is based.

Good government is founded on good citizenship. A few of our people are called upon to make laws. Others are chosen to enforce the laws. Still others are given the task of interpreting the laws. But all the people should be taught to obey the laws.
