Pity, O Lord of Mercy, Thy little Flock that's fcattered in the midst of Wolves: Arm them, O gracious JESV, on the one hand with Wisdom, and on the other with innocence, and round about with Thy encouraging Promises. * He that endures to the end shall be saved. Then let my bitterest enemies oppress me, and my nearest Relations betray me, and all the World for my Saviours fake hate me: ftill I will hope Hee'l in time deliver me, or, which is better, in Eternity re ward me. *He that.

But, when they perfecute you in this City, fly into another: for, verily I fay to you, You shall not have gone over the Cities of Ifrael, till the Son of Man come. The Difciple is not above his Master, nor the Servant above his Lord. If they have call'd the Mafter of the house Beelzebub, how much more fhall they call them of His houfhold? Fear them not therefore; for there is nothing cover'd that shall not

be reveal'd, and hid that fhall not be known. What I tell you in the dark, fpeak you in the light, and what you hear in the ear, that preach upon the house tops. And fear not them who kill the Body, but are not able to kill the Soul: but rather fear Him who is able to de-... ftroy both Soul and Body in Hell. Are not two Sparrows fold for a Farthing? and one of them fhall not fall to the. ground without your Father. But, the very hairs of your head are all number'd. Fear not, therefore, you are of more value then many Sparrows.

Relp. And, why do we wonder at the croffes of this World! is it fo new a thing that the innocent are afflicted, or fo intolerable an injury that a friend betrays us¿Be contented, O my Soul! 'tis enough for the Servant that he be as bis Mafter. If they fo ftrangely have treated our Lord, we may well expect how they'l deal with us. but, after all their frowardness we are fure of this, If we fuffer for Him, we shall be Glorifi'd with Him. Every one, therefore, that fhall confefs

fefs Me before Men, him will I also confefs before My Father who is in Heaven: but, he that fhall deny Me before men, him will I alfo deny before My Father who is in Heaven. Think not I ani come to fend peace on earth: I came not to fend peace, but a Sword. For, I am come to fet a man at variance against his Father, and the Daughter against her Mother, and the Daughter in Law against her Mother in Law. And a mans Foes fhall be they of his own houfhold. He that loves Father or Mother more then Me is not worthy of Me: and he that loves Son or Daughter more then Me is not worthy of Me. And, he that takes not his Crofs and follows after Mc is not worthy of Me. He that finds his Life fhall lofe it: and he that lofes his Life, for My fake, fhall find it. He that. receives you receives Me, and he that receives Me receives him that fent Me. He that receives a Prophet, in the name of a Prophet, thall receive a Prophets reward and he that receives a juft Man, in the name of a just Man, shall receive a juft Mans reward. And, whoever fhall give to drink to one of thefe little

Rep. Write all thefe Holy Truths in my Soul, O Lord, and Print Thy Love in the center of them all: There let it fit as Soveraign Governour, and abfolutely difpofe of all my interests. Let it com. mand my tongue to confefs Thee, and no fear of danger make me ever deny. And he was perplext, becaufe 'twas faid by fome that John was rilen from the dead; and by fome that Elias had appear'd, and by others, that one of the old Prophets wis rifen again. And Herod faid, John I have beheaded: but who is this of whom I hear fuch things? And he defir'd to kee Him. Which when JESUS heard, He withdrew Himself from thence. Refp. Soon as Thou gavest, O Holy JESU! Thy Difciples their inftructions, Thon beganft immediately to practice them Thy flf foon as Thy Difciples rekend by Commands, they instantly answer'd with a quick sbedience. * And the blessed defign of Both Tour Charities was to teach all the World the way to Salvation. The Great and the Guilty are still perplex, and all their study is their own private interest: whilft Thou, O Gracious Lord! madeft it Thy principal business every where to benefit others; preaching Thy Self in their Cities, and fending Thy Difciples as Miffioners through the Town.
