Let us pray.

ALMIGHTY GOD, Who through Thine only-begotten Son Jesus Christ hast overcome death and opened unto us the gate of everlasting life, we humbly beseech Thee that, as by Thy special grace preventing us, Thou dost put into our minds good desires, so by Thy continual help we may bring the same to good effect; through Jesus Christ our Lord, Who liveth and reigneth with Thee and the Holy Ghost, ever one God, world without end. Amen.

O ALMIGHTY LORD, Who hast given us Thy holy day, and hast promised to bless Thy people in all places where Thou dost record Thy Name, we beseech Thee to meet in mercy all the congregations of Thy worshipping people this day. May a devout and earnest spirit possess each breast. Let the ministration of Thy Word and Sacraments be effectual and saving. And to all Thy people give Thy heavenly grace, that with meek heart and due reverence they may hear and receive Thy holy Word, truly serving Thee in holiness and righteousness all the days of their life; through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Amen.

O ALMIGHTY GOD, Who into the place of the traitor Judas didst choose Thy faithful servant Matthias to be of the number of the twelve apostles, grant that Thy Church, being always preserved from false apostles, may be ordered and guided by faithful and true pastors; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

O LORD, we beseech Thee, let Thy continual pity cleanse and defend Thy Church; and because it cannot continue in safety without Thy succour, preserve it evermore by Thy help and goodness; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

O GREAT AND GRACIOUS GOD, Who art kind even to the

unthankful and the evil, have compassion, we pray Thee, upon those who do not remember Thy day to keep it holy. Bring the heedless to reflection. Arrest the Sabbath-breaker in his course. Shed upon minds dark and dead in sin Thy heavenly light. May multitudes, who have never seen it before, now see Thy great mercy to mankind, in the Day of sacred rest; and may we all more fully partake its blessedness; through the help of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen.

OUR FATHER which art in heaven, Hallowed be Thy Name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses; As we forgive them that trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever.

Amen.

SUNDAY EVENING.-SECOND WEEK.

THE

PSALM XXIII.

HE Lord is my shepherd; therefore can I lack nothing. He shall feed me in a green pasture, and lead me forth beside the waters of comfort.

He shall convert my soul, and bring me forth in the paths of righteousness, for his Name's sake.

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff comfort me.

Thou shalt prepare a table before me against them that

trouble me; thou hast anointed my head with oil, and my cup shall be full.

But thy loving-kindness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for

ever.

Let us pray.

Lord have mercy upon us.

Christ have mercy upon us.

Lord have mercy upon us.

OUR FATHER which art in heaven, Hallowed be Thy Name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses; As we forgive them that trespass And lead us not into temptation; but deliver For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and ever and ever. Amen.

against us. us from evil.

the glory, for

ALMIGHTY AND EVERLASTING GOD, heavenly Father, we give Thee humble thanks that Thou hast vouchsafed to call us to the knowledge of Thy grace and faith in Thee. Increase this knowledge and confirm this faith in us evermore. Give Thy Holy Spirit to us, that we, being born again and made heirs of salvation, may daily proceed in all virtue and godliness of living; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

ALMIGHTY LORD, the Head and Ruler of Thy Church, be pleased to accept the homage and service this day paid by Thy servants, and crown all with Thy blessing. Give the increase to the seed sown in Thy Name. May all who have been baptized receive the fulness of Thy grace, and ever remain in the number of Thy faithful and elect children. Nourish to life eternal those who have communicated at Thy holy Table. Join to the perfect intercession of Thy blessed Son the prayers of all Thy people; and graciously do, for us and in us, above

all that we ask or think; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

O MERCIFUL GOD, Who hast made all men, and hatest nothing that Thou hast made, nor wouldest the death of a sinner, but rather that he should be converted and live, have mercy upon all whose lot has been cast outside Thy fold, or who have perversely strayed from it, and take from them all ignorance, hardness of heart, and contempt of Thy Word: and so fetch them home, blessed Lord, to Thy flock, that they may be saved among the remnant of the true Israelites, and be made one fold under one Shepherd, Jesus Christ our Lord, Who liveth and reigneth with Thee and the Holy Spirit, one God, world without end. Amen.

O LORD, we beseech Thee mercifully to hear us; and grant that we to whom Thou hast given a hearty desire to pray, may by Thy mighty aid be defended and comforted in all dangers and adversities; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

UNTO GOD'S gracious mercy and protection we now commit ourselves. The Lord bless us and keep us. The Lord make His face to shine upon us, and be gracious unto us. The Lord lift up his countenance upon us, and give us peace, both now and evermore. Amen.

THE

PSALM XXIV.

HE earth is the Lord's, and all that therein is; the compass of the world, and they that dwell therein.

For he hath founded it upon the seas; and prepared it upon the floods.

Who shall ascend into the hill of the Lord, or who shall rise up in his holy place?

Even he that hath clean hands, and a pure heart, and that hath not lift up his mind unto vanity, nor sworn to deceive his neighbour.

He shall receive the blessing from the Lord, and righteousness from the God of his salvation.

This is the generation of them that seek him, even of them that seek thy face, O Jacob.

Lift up your heads, O ye gates, and be ye lift up, ye everlasting doors, and the King of glory shall come in.

Who is the King of glory? It is the Lord strong and mighty, even the Lord mighty in battle.

Lift up your heads, O ye gates, and be ye lift up, ye everlasting doors, and the King of glory shall come in.

Who is the King of glory? Even the Lord of hosts, he is the King of glory.

Let us pray.

GRANT, we beseech Thee, merciful Lord, to Thy faithful people pardon, and peace; that we may be cleansed from all our sins, and serve Thee with a quiet mind; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
