[Only two copies thought to exist, the above and the Williamson copy, which, we are informed, is now in the H. E. Huntington library. This is the copy which was No. 67 of the catalogue of Captain Martindell's collection, sold at Sotheby's, April 4, 1921, when it was apparently bought in at £150. The above must not be confounded with the first complete edition of "Letters of Marque,” in red and blue cl., which had an edition of a thousand copies, but which was suppressed by the author, about 900 copies being destroyed. There is laid in a postal card from the publishers, which states: "With reference to your inquiry, The Letters of Marque, No. 1,' by Rudyard Kipling, were suppressed and destroyed before the work was published "; hence, no copies were ever sold.] Kipling (R.)
