one district at a time for a thorough examination, and thus, in the course of three or four visits, he would become familiar with the various features of interest and beauty with which the country abounds.

The Authors desire to acknowledge their obligation to Mr. F. H. Mares, the eminent Photographer, of Grafton Street, Dublin, for his valuable assistance in placing at their service a large number of views of Irish scenery, from which Messrs. Forster and Co., of Crow Street, have produced the highly finished chromo-lithographs that illustrate the book. Indeed all the illustrations have been executed by this eminent firm; the printing by the Dublin Steam Printing Company, Abbey Street, and the binding by Messrs. Galwey and Co., Eustace Street. The Authors direct attention to the fact with peculiar pleasure, because it has been too much the custom to depreciate Irish art, and to assume that high-class books could not be properly illustrated or printed in this country. The public will judge whether this imputation is deserved; and a visit to the establishment of the printer, which they recommend, will effectually remove any lingering doubt, and afford at the same time much valuable information.
