Residence,

It is requested that this Paper be either signed or certified by persons known to the Committee, or that a reference be given to some person in Dublin, as knowing the School, its Conductors, or some of the persons who sign this Application.

+ It is requested that this document be signed by some of the Managers of the School known to, or in correspondence with the Committee of the Sunday School Society for Ireland.

FORM OF THE REMARKS, &c.

Directed to the Patrons and Conductors of Schools.

THE Committee of this Society, anxious to make known more fully its principles and objects, and to facilitate as much as possible the intercourse between it and the various Schools throughout Ireland, issue the following "Remarks," which, as containing much necessary information and sugges tions that may be useful to the Schools in correspondence with the Society, are recommended to the particular attention of all the Patrons and Conductors of them.

PRINCIPLES OF THE SOCIETY.

The principles on which this Society has been instituted are, that it shall promote the establishment, and facilitate the conducting of Sunday Schools in Ireland, by disseminating the most approved plans for the management of such Schools, by supplying them with Spelling-Books, and copies of the Sacred Scriptures, or extracts therefrom, without note or comment, (the only books which the Society disseminates amongst the Scholars,) either gratuitously, or at reduced prices: and that it shall not assume to itself any control over the internal regulations of the Schools in connexion with it: nor use any other interference in their concerns than that of kind admonition and advice.

GRANTS OF BOOKS.

1st. The Committee will assist a Sunday School by a gratuitous grant of Testaments, Spelling-Books, Alphabets, and Freeman's Card for Adults, (should the circumstances of the School appear to them to render such a grant necessary,) once in each year, commencing 5th January, but not oftener. The Committee, however, trust that the Conductors of Schools will feel the importance of using their utmost exertions to prevent any unnecessary expendi ture of books, that the demands on the Society, already great, may be rendered as light as possible.

2d. It is requested, when an application is made to the Society, that the name of the Sunday School or Schools to which it refers, be written at the top of the letter.

3d. A list of Queries (which are supplied by the Society upon application) must be filled up, and sent to the Secretaries of the Society, on every fresh application for Gratuitous assistance; no grant can be made until these Queries are transmitted, and laid before the Committee of the Society. The Queries should be either signed, or certified by persons known to the Committee of the Society, or a reference given to some person in Dublin, as know. ing the School, its Managers, or some of the persons who sign the Queries. 4th. Books are not granted gratuitously, except to Sunday Schools actually established; but they may be purchased at Reduced Prices for the use of Sunday Schools about to be established.

5th. The Society does not grant books gratuitously for the purpose of being given as Premiums.

6th. It is expected that Books obtained from the Society either gratuitously or at Reduced Prices, shall be used by Scholars actually attending Sunday Schools. They may be given to such gratuitously, or they may be sold to them either for the prices charged by the Society, or for less, according to circumstances; but when the Scholars of Sunday Schools use the books in Daily Schools also, they should be required to pay the price charged by the Society,

7th. It is requested that the Alphabets should be pasted on boards, on cards, or on stiff double paper pasted together; and that the Scholars be urged to repair the binding of their books, by pasting the covers afresh, or stitching them down at the corners, when it may be necessary.

CARRIAGE OF BOOKS.

8th. The Committee do not pay for the carriage of any parcels of books; nor do they make any bargain on behalf of the Conductors of Schools, with carmen or others, respecting the price to be paid for the carriage of parcels. If, however, any instances of fraud, or delay, or loss should occur, on a representation being made, the Committee will assist in investigating and remedying the evil.

9th. All books granted gratuitously are kept at the Depository of the Society until called for; but books purchased at full or reduced prices, will be delivered, if required, at any place appointed within the City of Dublin. When the Conductors of Schools send to the Depository for their books, they should send also a written order by the messenger, signed by some person known to the Committee; and they should state the name of the School to which the books sent for are intended.

10th. It is suggested that the Conductors of Schools should, when circumstances permit, make arrangements for the carriage of their books by some regular carmen, to whom letters should be given to the Secretaries of the Society. This mode may often prevent much delay, and ensure safety in their transmission.

11th. Every parcel of books sent from the Depository of the Society is sealed with the Society's seal, bearing the impression of S.S. S. on or close to the knots of the cord. Should this seal be broken or defaced, so as to lead to a suspicion of the parcel having been opened, it is requested that Correspondents will immediately apprise the Secretary of the Society of the fact.

BOOKS SOLD AT FULL AND REDUCED PRICES.

12th. Bibles are not granted gratuitously, but are sold to Sunday Schools at Reduced Prices.

13th. It is required that all books purchased, either at Full or Reduced Prices, shall be paid for before they are sent from the Depository. The Committee have been obliged to adopt this regulation, to prevent inconvenience and loss to the Society.

14th. The Conductors of Sunday Schools known to the Society, have, in addition to gratuitous grants, the privilege of purchasing books, for the use of their Sunday Schools, at the following Reduced Prices :
