thou hast purchased with thy precious blood, may be not only heard of in the peaceful sanctuary of our churches, but displayed abroad in the conduct of all thy followers, widely and far through this busy and tumultuous world. Grant that the mercy which thy sufferings have bought, may not only gladden the outward ear, but effectually carry peace and comfort to the inmost hearts of all thy faithful people. Be thou ever in spirit with thy ministering servants on earth, as thou didst promise to thy immediate disciples of old, that thy divine presence may always animate and sustain them, and that they may not have carried in vain thine embassage of peace to the world. And do thou so soften and subdue the hardened and impenitent heart of man, and so vouchsafe to send thy blessing on the advocacy of thine holy cause, that, feeble and fallible as its ministers may be, their humblest efforts, with the assistance of thy grace, may acceptably promote thy service; till the whole earth at length resound with the glad tidings of peace and reconciliation, and all her assembled and mighty populations may join in that triumphant song of gratitude and praise which is ever heard before the presence of the King of kings, saying, "Blessing and honour and glory and power, be unto him that sitteth upon the throne, and unto the lamb for ever and ever!"* *Rev. v. 13.
