Quest. Why must we "in mind" as well as "heart" ascend thither?

Ans. Because our thoughts and affections, or "mind and heart," generally go together.

Quest. How are we thus "continually to dwell with Christ?"

Ans. By "continually" anticipating that we shall "dwell with Him" hereafter.

Quest. Does the very same Lord Jesus Christ Who ascended from earth, now dwell in heaven?

Ans. Yes; as God-man He "liveth and reigneth with the Father and the Holy Ghost, one God, world without end."

Quest. Does then the manhood of our Redeemer live and reign?

Ans. Yes; for Jesus said a little before His Ascension, "All power is given unto Me in heaven and in earth." Matt. xxviii. 18.

39. SUNDAY AFTER ASCENSION DAY.

O GOD, the King of Glory, Who hast exalted Thine only Son Jesus Christ with great triumph unto Thy kingdom in heaven; we beseech Thee, leave us not comfortless; but send to us Thine Holy Ghost to comfort us, and exalt us unto the same place whither our Saviour Christ is gone before; Who liveth and reigneth with Thee and the Holy Ghost, one God, world without end. Amen.

Quest. Who is the King of Glory?

Ans. "The Lord of Hosts, He is the King of Glory." Psalm xxiv. 10.

Quest. Unto what is our Lord Jesus Christ exalted, after being dead and buried, and rising again on the third day?

Ans. "Unto the Kingdom in Heaven of the King of Glory."

Quest. In what manner was our Lord "exalted" thither?

Ans. "With great triumph."

Quest. In what did "the triumph" of our Lord's Ascension consist?

Ans. In that He took our nature into heaven, and assured to it an immortality which had been forfeited, destroying him that had the power of death, that is, the devil." Heb. ii. 14. 66 Having spoiled principalities and powers, He made show of them openly, triumphing over them in it." Col. ii. 15.

Quest. Would our Lord's departure from this world "have left us comfortless ?"

Ans. Yes; unless He had sent to us "His Holy Ghost to comfort us." "The Father shall give you another Comforter, that He may abide with you for ever; even the Spirit of Truth. I will not leave you comfortless." John xiv. 16-18.

Quest. Shall we "be exalted to the same place whither our Saviour Christ has gone before?"

Ans. Our Lord has said, "I go to prepare a place for you." "I will come again, and receive you unto Myself; that where I am, there ye may be also." John xiv. 2, 3. Quest. To whom is it promised that they shall live and reign with Christ hereafter?

Ans. Chiefly to those who suffer for His sake. 2 Tim. ii. 12.

40. WHIT-SUNDAY.

GOD, Who as at this time didst teach the hearts of Thy faithful people, by the sending to them the light of Thy Holy Spirit; grant us by the same Spirit to have a right judgment in all things, and evermore to rejoice in His holy comfort, through the merits of Christ Jesus our Saviour, Who liveth and reigneth with Thee, in the unity of the same Spirit, one God, world without end. Amen.

Quest. What event do we celebrate " at this time?" Ans. "The sending the light of the Holy Spirit." Quest. For what purpose did "God send the light of His Holy Spirit ?"

Ans. "To teach the hearts of His faithful people." Quest. To what "faithful people" was the Holy Spirit 66 as at this time" sent?

Ans. To the Apostles, and "all who should believe through their word." John xvii. 20. "God hath sent forth the Spirit of His Son into your hearts." Gal. iv. 6.

Quest. In what manner did "the light of the Holy Spirit" descend on the Apostles?

Ans. Visibly on the day of Pentecost. "There appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them." Acts ii. 3.

Quest. Is the light of the same Spirit afforded to us

now?

Ans. Yes; He is promised to "abide with the Church for ever." John xiv. 16.

Quest. For what purpose?

Ans. That we may "have a right judgment in all things, and evermore rejoice in His holy comfort."

Quest. What do you mean by "a right judgment in all things?"

Ans. A judgment of them as they appear in the sight of God. "He will guide you into all truth." xvi. 13.

John

Quest. What do you mean by rejoicing in the comfort of the Holy Ghost?

Ans. It is to "rejoice in hope of the glory of God;" Rom. v. 2. and," of the salvation which is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory." 2 Tim. ii. 10.

Quest. How does this rejoicing afford "a holy comfort ?"

7

Ans. By a certain belief in the promises of God concerning the life eternal, comfort is afforded under the greatest sorrows of the life present. Patience, hope, and joy, founded on this belief, are especial gifts of the Holy Spirit of God. "Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost." Rom. xv. 13.

Quest. Is the Holy Spirit God and Lord, one with the Father and the Son?

Ans. Yes; for "Christ Jesus our Saviour liveth and reigneth with the Father, in the unity of the same Spirit, one God, world without end."

41. TRINITY SUNDAY.

ALMIGHTY and everlasting God, Who hast given unto us Thy servants grace, by the con

fession of a true faith, to acknowledge the glory of the eternal Trinity, and in the power of the Divine Majesty to worship the Unity; we beseech Thee, that Thou wouldest keep us stedfast in this faith, and evermore defend us from all adversities; Who livest and reignest, one God, world without end. Amen.

Quest. Are we obliged to "the confession of a true faith ?"

Ans. Yes; for we must "confess with the mouth the Lord Jesus;" "and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation." Rom. x. 9, 10.

Quest. Is it "the confession of a true faith to acknowledge the glory of the eternal Trinity?"

Ans. Yes; "Whosoever denieth the Son, the same hath not the Father." 1 John ii. 23.

Quest. When do we make "confession of this true faith," " acknowledging the glory of the eternal Trinity?” Ans. When baptized " in the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost," which is indispensable to our being Christians.

Quest. In which of the Creeds is the doctrine of the Trinity in Unity especially set forth?

Ans. In that called after St. Athanasius.

Quest. Do we worship a separate Divine Power in each Person of the Ever-blessed Trinity?

Ans. No; "in the power of the Divine Majesty we worship the Unity."

Quest. What do you mean by Trinity?

Ans. Three Persons in one God; a mystery of the Divine Nature, which it is not to be expected we should have ability to comprehend.
