Quest. Will the same medicine heal our diseases?

83. SAINT SIMON AND SAINT JUDE.

O ALMIGHTY GOD, Who hast built Thy Church upon the foundation of the Apostles and Prophets, Jesus Christ Himself being the head corner-stone; grant us so to be joined together in unity of spirit by their doctrine, that we may be made an holy temple, acceptable unto Thee, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Quest. Who were St. Simon and St. Jude?

Ans. Apostles of our Lord and Saviour; a part of that foundation on which the Church is built.

Quest. Why is the foundation of the Church composed of Prophets also?

Ans. Because it is built not only on what the Apostles have instituted, but also on what the Prophets have foretold.

Quest. Who is "the head corner-stone" of this building? Ans. "Jesus Christ Himself."

Quest. How are we made lively stones thereof ?

Ans. By being "joined together in unity of spirit." Quest. How are we to become so "joined" or "knit together?" Col. ii. 19.

Ans. By the doctrine of the Apostles and Prophets, and of our Lord Jesus Christ Himself.

Quest. What is the purpose of our being thus " joined together in unity of spirit?"

Ans. "That we may be made an holy temple, acceptable unto God, through Jesus Christ our Lord." "In Whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit." Ephes. ii. 22.

84. ALL SAINTS' DAY.

O ALMIGHTY GOD, Who hast knit together Thine elect in one communion and fellowship, in the mystical body of Thy Son Christ our Lord; grant us grace so to follow Thy blessed Saints in all virtuous and godly living, that we may come to those unspeakable joys, which Thou hast prepared for them that unfeignedly love Thee, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Quest. Who are God's "elect ?"

Ans. Those whom "He hath chosen in Christ to be without blame before Him in love." Eph. i. 4.

Quest. How is this election signified?

Ans. By our being "knit together in one communion and fellowship." "Knowing, brethren beloved, your election of God." 1 Thess. i. 4. "Put on therefore, as the elect of God, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind." Col. iii. 12.

Quest. How is this "one communion and fellowship" described in Holy Scripture?

Ans. As "the mystical Body of Jesus Christ our Lord." "Ye are the Body of Christ, and members in particular." 1 Cor. xii. 27.

Quest. Who are these members in particular?
Ans. "All Saints."

Quest. How are we to follow the examples the blessed Saints have given us?

Ans. "In all virtuous and godly living." "Brethren, be followers together of me; and mark them which walk so, as ye have us for an ensample." Phil. iii. 17.

Quest. What will be the end of those who do so?

Ans. They will "come to those unspeakable joys, which God hath prepared for them that unfeignedly love Him."

THE END.
