78. SAINT JAMES THE APOSTLE.

GRANT, O merciful God, that as Thine holy Apostle Saint James, leaving his father and all that he had, without delay was obedient unto the calling of Thy Son Jesus Christ, and followed Him; so we, forsaking all worldly and carnal affections, may be evermore ready to follow Thy holy commandments, through Jesus Christ our Lord. 79. SAINT BARTHOLOMEW THE APOSTLE.

O ALMIGHTY and everlasting God, Who didst give to Thine Apostle Bartholomew grace truly to believe and to preach Thy Word; grant, we beseech Thee, unto Thy Church, to love that Word which he believed, and both to preach and receive the same, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Quest. Who was St. Bartholomew the Apostle?

Ans. He is believed to be the same as Nathanael, of whom our Saviour said, "Behold an Israelite indeed, in whom there is no guile." John i. 47.
