IN the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, Who was crucified and laid into His grave for me, I am now about to lay me down to rest. The Lord bless me, and keep me, and save me evermore. The Lord raise me up again, and bring me at last to life eternal. Amen.

HAVE mercy upon me, O Lord, now, and at the hour of my death.

PRESERVE me while I am waking, and

defend me while I sleep, that my soul may continually watch for Thee, and both body and soul may rest in Thy peace for ever. Amen.

THOU Who hast foretold, that Thou wilt

return to judgment, in an hour that we are not aware of, grant me grace to watch and pray always; that whether Thou comest at even, or at midnight, or at the cock-crowing, or in the morning, Thou mayest find me in the number of those servants, who shall be blessed for watching for their Lord, and save me. Amen.

MOST kind and merciful Lord, let this season of rest be entirely free from sin, as from labour and sorrow: and suffer not any thought to surprise my unguarded mind, which may displease Thee, or defile me.

Let my sleep be composed and pure, quiet from every wicked and worldly imagination, and do Thou, Lord, drive away all suggestions of the devil, or the flesh. Amen.

LORD Jesu, Who Thyself hadst not where

to lay Thy head, yet givest me a safe resting place, let me ever remember Thy lowliness and sufferings for me, and Thy mercy; and make me meek and humble, patient and truly penitent, through Thy grace. Amen.

LORD Jesu, Who didst pass the night on the mountain-top in prayer, help me to remember Thee in my bed, and think on Thee when I am waking.

LORD, bless my (father and mother, my brothers and sisters, my) pastors and teachers, all in this house who are set over

me, and all my companions.

Convert all

who are now living in sin. Have mercy on the destitute. When we lie down in our graves, O Lord, be Thou our Light and our joy. In the awful judgment, deliver us.

OUR Father, &c.

The night cometh, when no man can work. Grant me, O Lord, to remember this. As Thou hast been about my path, so be Thou now about my bed.

May Thy blessing rest upon me, and may Thy gracious presence still abide with me. Amen, Amen, Amen.

WHEN WE ENTER INTO OUR BED.

I lay me down in peace, and take my rest, for it is Thou, Lord, only, that makest me dwell in safety.

AS WE LIE DOWN TO SLEEP.

Thou, Who wert laid in the dark and silent tomb, be Thou with me through the darkness of the night.

OR THIS.

Lord, remember me when Thou comest in Thy kingdom.

At night lie down,
Prepare to have
Thy sleep, thy death,
Thy bed, thy grave.

Awake, arise,

Think that thou hast

Thy life but lent,

Thy breath a blast.

Lord, in that last and dreadful day, When man to judgment wakes fron. clay, Be Thou, O Christ, the sinner's stay,
