SHORT PRAYERS FOR PRIVATE USE IN THE BEGINNING OF THE DAY, AND ON OTHER OCCASIONS.

When we first awake.

BLESSED art Thou, O Lord my God, Who

turnest the shadow of death into the morning, and renewest the face of the earth.

“Awake, thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light." Lord, lift Thou up the light of Thy countenance upon me.

AT OUR UPRISING.

To be said devoutly.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost.

As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

Or this.

IN the Name of our Lord Jesus Christ, Who was crucified for me, I arise from my rest to do Him service. The Lord, by His cross and passion, save me, bless me, govern me and keep me this day, and for ever. Amen.

"I laid me down, and slept, and rose up again, for the Lord sustained me.”

WHILE DRESSING.

BLESSED Jesus, wash me thoroughly from my wickedness, and cleanse me from my sin. Make me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me. Amen.

BLESSED Jesus, clothe my soul in Thy

spotless robes of righteousness, and grant me the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, that I may open my mouth with wisdom, and in my tongue may be the law of kindness. Amen.

Or this.

LET not mine adorning, O Lord, be the outward adorning, but let it be the

hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in Thy sight, O Lord, of great price. Amen.

"Put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof."

The following prayers to be said, after being dressed, devoutly kneeling.

LORD, by Thy mercy I am risen up once more, when I might have slept the sleep of death, and I am fallen prostrate before Thee. Into Thy merciful hands, O Almighty God, I commend myself, my soul and my body, my thoughts, my words, and my works, and all my powers and faculties, beseeching Thee to be ever with me, to direct, sanctify, and govern me in the ways of Thy laws, and in the works of Thy commandments, that, through Thy most mighty protection, both here and ever, I may be preserved both in body and soul, to serve Thee, the only true God, through Jesus. Christ our Lord. Amen.
