sustain us in all our agonies, weaknesses, and temptations, that with the testimony of a good conscience and the sense of Thy mercies and consolations, we may depart this life, in the unity of the Church, in Thy love, and a certain hope of salvation, through Him Who died for us, and washed us in His own blood, and now ever liveth to make intercession for us.

Grant this, O Lord, we beseech Thee, for Jesus Christ's sake.

To be added on days when any members of the family have communicated.

WE thank Thee, O Lord God Almighty, for

the blessing which Thou hast vouchsafed to Thy servants, in admitting them this day to partake of Thy holy, precious, and heavenly mysteries, which Thou hast given us, for the sanctification and healing of our souls and bodies, and we beseech Thee to grant, that through this Communion of the holy Body and Blood of Thy Christ, they may obtain the remission of their sins, and all other benefits of His passion, through the same Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Finally, we most humbly beseech Thee, most gracious God, to remember for good all those that are over us in the Lord, who watch for our souls as they that must give an account, that they may do it with joy. Bless all our relations, benefactors, and friends, and have mercy upon all men; preserve the faithful in Thy fear and love, and convert the wicked. And hear us, good Lord, when we commend unto Thy tender compassion all that are in error, and sincerely seek the truth; all such as are destitute of necessary means of instruction; all that are engaged in sinful courses, that they may have grace and strength to break their bonds; all that labour under trials and afflictions, (especially those for whom our prayers are desired); all sick and dying persons, that they may omit nothing that is necessary to make their peace with Thee before they die; and also such as never pray for themselves, that they may see, before it be too late, the danger of living without God in the world; these and all other necessaries for them, for us, and Thy whole Church, we humbly beg in the name

and mediation of Jesus Christ, our most blessed Lord and Saviour. Amen.

UNTO Thy gracious mercy and protection we commit ourselves, O Lord, this night and evermore. O Lord, bless us and keep us. O Lord, make Thy face to shine upon us, and be gracious unto us. O Lord, lift up the light of Thy countenance upon us, and give us peace now and evermore.

If a priest be present, let him add,

Amen.

THE blessing of God Almighty, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost, be upon

you, and remain with you for ever. Amen.

THE FOLLOWING EXERCISES ARE INTENDED TO BE USED IN PRIVATE, ON ANY SUITABLE OCCASION.

AN ACT OF FAITH.

I COME to God, in firm belief that He is ;

and that He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him.

I know that my Redeemer liveth; that He is the Christ, the Son of the living God; that He is of a truth the Saviour of the world; that He came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am chief. By the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ I trust to be saved.

I believe that the blessed Spirit of God worketh in me to renew me, to sanctify my whole body, soul, and spirit.

I know that this frail body shall rise again, and stand at the latter day upon the earth, at which time I stedfastly trust to see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.

By all Thy endearing titles of Father,

Creator, Saviour, Mediator, Intercessor, Redeemer, Sanctifier, Comforter, Three Persons, and One God, let Thy merciful kindness be upon me, like as I do put my trust in Thee.

Be Thou, O Lord God, within me to strengthen me, without me to guard me, over me to shelter me, beneath me to support me, before me to guide me, behind me to be my rereward, round about me, to keep off my enemies on every side. Amen, Amen.

MY

AN ACT OF PENITENCE.

sin is ever before me. I have rebelled against my Father and my God; I have trodden under foot the blood of the Lord Who died for me, and have resisted and grieved the blessed Spirit of grace. I have fallen by my iniquity; I have gone after the way of my own heart, heeding no reproofs, no warnings. I have deserved to be cast, by the righteous judgment of an offended and despised God, far from His blessed Presence, into outer darkness, into hell; I have forfeited all hopes of heaven, I have been a hard, ungrateful sinner.
