life: look not behind thee, neither stay thou in all the plain; escape to the mountain, lest thou be consumed. And Lot said unto them, Oh, not so, my lord: behold now, thy servant hath found grace in thy sight, and thou hast magnified thy mercy, which thou hast shewed unto me in saving my life; and I cannot escape to the mountain, lest some evil take me, and I die. Behold now, this city is near to flee unto, and it is a little one: Oh, let me escape thither, (is it not a little one?) and my soul shall live.

And he said unto him, See, I have accepted thee concerning this thing, that I will not overthrow this city, for the which thou hast spoken. Haste thee, escape thither: therefore the name of the city was called Zoar. The sun was risen upon the earth when Lot entered into Zoar.

Then the Lord rained upon Sodom, and upon Gomorrah, brimstone and fire from the Lord out of heaven; and he overthrew those cities, and all the plain, and all the inhabitants of the cities, and that which grew upon the ground. But his wife looked back from behind him, and she became a pillar of salt.

And Abraham gat up early in the morning to the place where he stood before the Lord: and he looked toward Sodom and Gomorrah, and toward all the land of the plain, and beheld, and lo, the smoke of the country went up as the smoke of a furnace.

And the Lord visited Sarah as he had said, and the Lord did unto Sarah as he had spoken; for Sarah conceived, and bare Abraham a son in his old age, at the set time of which God had spoken to him. And Abraham called the name of his son that was born unto him, whom Sarah bare to him, Isaac. And Abraham circumcised his son Isaac, being eight days old, as God had commanded him. And Abraham was an hundred years old, when his son Isaac was born unto him.

And it came to pass, after these things, that God did tempt Abraham, and said unto him, Abraham: and he said, Behold here I am. And he said, take now thy son, thine only son Isaac, whom thou love est, and get thee into the land of Moriah; and offer him there for a burnt offering upon one of the mountains which I will tell thee of. And Abraham rose up early in the morning, and saddled his ass, and took two of his young men with him, and Isaac his son, and clave the wood for a burnt-offering, and rose up, and went unto the place which God had told him.

Then on the third day Abraham lift up his eyes; and saw the place afar off. And Abraham said unto his young men, abide you here with the ass'; and I and the lad will go yonder and worship, and come again to you. And Abraham took the wood of the burnt-offering, and laid it upon Isaac his son; and he took the fire in his hand, and a knife: and they went both of them together.

And Isaac spake unto Abraham his father, and said, My father: and he said, Here am I, my son. And he said, Behold the fire and the wood; but where is the lamb for a burnt-offering? And Abraham said, My son, God will provide himself a lamb for a burnt-offering: so they went both of them together. And they came to the place which God had told him of; and Abraham built an altar there, and laid the wood in order, and bound Isaac his son, and laid him on the altar upon the wood.

And Abraham stretched forth his hand, and took the knife to slay his son. And the angel of the Lord called unto him out of heaven, and said, Abraham, Abraham: and he said, Here am I. And he said, Lay not thine hand upon the lad, neither do thou any thing unto him; for now I know that thou fearest God, seeing thou hast not withheld thy son, thine only son, from him.

And Abraham lifted up his eyes, and looked, and, behold, behind him a ram caught in a thicket E

Agus do goir aingeal an Liġearna ar Abraham an dára hvy ó neaṁ, agus a dubyt, Do mjoñaż mé oram féin, arsa an Liġearna; do cioň zo ndearina tú an níðsi, agus nar ċoigil tú do mac, haonṁaċ aṁajn; A mbeañużad go mbeañoċad ¿ú, agus a médużad go méjdeóċyd mé do šiol aṁvil réulta nime, & mar an ngarnęṁ ar ¿rájġ da fáge; agus relbocvid do tjol geatajde a naṁad : agus añ do rjolsa bêjd a nyle ċinead 4 talaṁ bęñvġe; do čjoñ 3 úmblyg tú dom glór.

by his horns: and Abraham went and took the ram, and offered him up for a burnt-offering in the stead of his son. And Abraham called the name of that place Jehovah-jireh: as it is said to this day, In the mount of the Lord it shall be seen.

And the angel of the Lord called unto Abraham out of heaven a second time, and said, By myself have I sworn, saith the Lord; for because thou hast done this thing, and hast not withheld thy on, thine only son; that in blessing I will bless thee, and in multiplying I will multiply thy seed as the stars of the heaven, and as the sand which is upon the sea-shore; and thy seed shall possess the gate of his enemies and in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; because thou hast obeyed my voice.

So Abraham returned unto his young men; and they rose up, and went together to Beer-sheba: and Abraham dwelt at Beer-sheba.

And Sarah was an hundred and seven and twenty years old; these were the years of the life of Sarah. And Sarah died in Kirjath-arba; and Abraham came to mourn for Sarah, and to weep for her.

IV.

AND Abraham was old, and well striken in age: and the Lord had blessed Abraham in all things. And Abraham said unto his eldest servant of his house, that ruled over all that he had, Put, I pray thee, thy hand under my thigh ;* and I will make thee swear by the Lord, the God of heaven, and the God of the earth, that thou shalt not take a wife unto my son of the daughters of the Canaanites, amongst whom I dwell; but thou shalt go unto my country, and to my kindred, and take a wife unto my son Isaac.
