II. k. John i. I. In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. V. 14. And the Word was made

flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father) full of grace and truth. I John v. 20. And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an underftanding that we may know him that is true: and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jefus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life. Phil. ii. 6. Who being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God. Gal. iv. 4. But when the fulness of the time was come, God fent forth his Son made of a woman, made under the law.

Forafmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the fame: that through death he might deftroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil. v. 16. For verily he took not on him the nature of angels; but he took on him the feed of Abraham. v. 17. Wherefore in all things it behoved him to be made like unto his brethren; that he might be a merciful and faithful high priest, in things pertaining to God, to make reconciliation for the fins of the people. Heb. iv. 15. For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without fin.

The Lord Jefus, in his human nature thus united to the divine, was fanctified and anointed with the holy Spirit above measure p; having in him all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge q; in whom it pleased the Father that all fulnefs fhould dwell r: to the end, that being holy, harmlefs, undefiled, and full of grace and truth, he might be thoroughly furnished to execute

Whofe are the fathers, and of whom as concerning the flesh Chrift came, who is over all, God bleffed for ever. Amen. 1 Pet. iii, 18. For Christ also hath once fuffered for fins, the juft for the unjuft (that he might bring us to God) being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit. 1 Tim.iii. 16. And without controverfy, great is the mystery of godlinefs: God was manifest in the fefh, juftified in the Spirit, feen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles,

the believed on in the world, received up into glory.

Rom. i. 3. Concerning his Son Jefus Chrift our Lord, which was made of the feed of David, according to the flesh, v. 4. And declared to be the Son of God with power, according to the Spirit of holiness, by the refurrection from the dead. 1 Tim. ii. 5. For there is one God, and one Mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus.

III. p Pfal. xlv. 7. Thou lovest righteoufnefs, and hateft wickednefs: therefore God, thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladnefs above thy fellows. John in. 34. For he whom God hath fent, fpeaketh the words of God: for God giveth not the Spirit by measure unto him.

v. 6. In burnt-offerings and facrifices for fin thou haft had no pleafure: v. 7. Then faid I, Lo, I come (in the volume of the book it is written of me) to do thy will, O God. v. 8. Above, when he faid, Sacrifice, and offering, and burntofferings, and offering for fin thou wouldst not, neither hadft pleasure therein, (which are offered by the law:) v. 9. Then faid he, Lo, I come to do thy will, O God. taketh away the first, that he may establish the fecond. V. 10. By the which will we are fanctified, through the offering of the body of Jefus Chrift once for all. John x. 18. No man taketh it from me, but I lay it down of myself: I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This commandment have I received of my Father. Phil ii, 8. And being found in fafhion as a man, he humbled himfelf, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the crofs.

V. The Lord Jefus, by his perfect obedience and facrifice of himself, which he through the eternal Spirit once offered up unto God, hath fully fatisfied the justice of his Father k; and purchased not only reconciliation, but an everlasting inheritance in the kingdom of heaven, for all those whom the Father hath given unto him /.

Heb. ix. 24. For Chrift is not entered into the holy places made with hands, which are the figures of the true; but into heaven itself, now to appear in the prefence of God for us. Heb. vii. 25. Wherefore he is able alfo to fave them to the uttermost, that come unto God by him, feeing he ever liveth to make interceffion for them.

i Rom. xiv. 9. For to this end Chrift both died, and rofe, and revived, that he might be Lord both of the dead and living. v. 1o. But why dost thou judge thy brother? or why doft thou fet at nought thy brother? for we fhall all stand before the judgment-feat of Chrift. Acts i. 1. Which alfo faid, Ye men of Galilee, why ftand ye gazing up into heaven? this fame Jefus which is taken up from you into heaven, fhall fo come in like manner as ye have feen him go into heaven. Acts x. 42. And he commanded us to preach unto the people, and to teftify that it is he which was ordained of God to be the Judge of quick and dead. Matth. xiii. 40. As therefore the tares are gathered and burnt in the fire; fo fhall it be in the end of this world. v. 41. The Son of man fhall fend forth his angels, and they fhall gather out of his kingdom all things that offend, and them which do iniquity: v. 42. not their firft eftate, but left their own habitation, he hath reserved in everlasting chains under darknefs, unto the judgment of the great day. 2 Pet. ii. 4. For if God fpared not the angels that finned, but caft them down to hell, and delivered them into chains of darknefs, to be reserved unto judgment.

V. k Rom. v. 19. For as by one man's difabedience many were made finners: fo by the obedience of one fhall many be made righteous. Heb. ix. 14. How much more fhall the blood of Chrift, who through the eternal Spirit, offered himself without fpot to God, purge your confcience from dead works to ferve the living God? v. 16. For where a teftament is, there muft alfo of neceffity be the death of the teftator. Heb. x. 14. For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are fanctified. Eph. v. 2. And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us, an offering and a facrifice to God for a fweet Imelling favour. Rom iii. 25. Whom God hath fet forth to be a propitiation, through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remiffion of fins that are past, through the forbearance of God: v. 26. To declare, I fay, at this time his righteoufnefs: that he might be juft, and the juftifier of him which believeth in Jefus.
